Does anyone know of a way to run Windows 8 at 800x600 resolution?

Topic. I have a good reason, so let's not dwell on the reason for this unusual request.

Thanks. I had read an article reviewing the pre-release editions of Windows 8 that had indicated they upped the minimum resolution to 1024x768. They must have gotten the OS min resolution confused with the Metro UI minimum resolution to run apps. Silly me for not verifying myself, but thanks for the tip as I hadn't been on that screen before.

No problem man, I don't blame you they shouldn't have made it hidden to start with it's just dumb Out of curiosity, what are you using the 800x600 for? my first guess would be busting out a crt monitor for some old games perhaps?

Correct. It's a Wells Gardner D9400 27" CRT monitor that maxes out at 800x600. I'm trying to get it off XP and bring it up to date with the rest of the boxes in the house. I also popped a GTX 650 into the cabinet so it can do a better job of modern fighters like Street Fighter IV and SF vs Tekken (oh, and now Mortal Kombat).

Now my problem is that Windows only wants to seem to run at 64hz and not 60hz. This is a weird refresh that my monitor doesn't like. There are no other refresh rates available in the "list all modes" section and the Refresh dropdown under Monitors only shows 64hz and has no other options (show modes this monitor doesn't support is greyed out).

Nevermind, the refresh rate issue seems to have resolved itself automatically. I left the system for a few hours, came back and it had automatically changed to the native res of the test monitor I had attached and a full range of modes were now available for selection. I have it working on the CRT now.

Thanks for the help.
