I haven't heard or seen many threads or much talk about 3DMark scores in quite a while. I noticed a 'new' one, not sure how new, but I haven't seen it before and I thought I'd just ask.

I haven't cared about 3DMark since 15 years ago.

No. I don't own not do I ever intend to own a system worth boasting about, and I find such scores to be completely useless at determining whether my PC can run my games. Not that I have ever worried about that since 8 years ago - that's how long since the last time I've seriously looked at a game's system requirements. I only use these benchmarking tools for stress testing.

I don't really care for it but when I upgrade, I am curious to see how my build compares to high end machines.

I like benchmarking but in all honesty I don't care.

I can play Battlefield 4 at 2560x1080 on Ultra and get 80-90FPS and it never drops below 60FPS and thats all that matters, smooth gaming with no dips into 20FPS like consoles.

I don't care of my CPU/GPU score I know it ain't going to reach the top so no need of doing such things; I just care how well will my rig perform on games.

PS: if you want to get any close to top charts of those marks you need 4x GTX 780ti OC with 64Gb RAM 3k, and some Extreme i7 4960X CPU OC

It's a pretty decent indicator for letting you know that your system is working properly.

One thing occurred to me when I was running the latest 3DMark, is that everything was running smoothly despite the fact my system is years old. (Phenom2+GTX260) Well, what occurred to me is that I think that the benchmark actually pressured Nvidia and AMD to create more beefy cards because gamers would run 3DMark06 and see all the stuttering and then complain their systems suck.

Maybe that's the wrong conclusion, but I'm just thinking out loud.

Only good for stress testing imo, but otherwise 3dmark gives no real world relevance its a just a score and nothing else.

Synthetic benchmarks are only really useful to test if your card is performing at a normal level compared to other cards of the same model.

Yes they do, that's why there is a 3dmark thread here. its an indication of how powerful your system is, rough estimate.

it's never an indicator for raw gaming performance, so no, I don't care

I find it quite fun to try and squeeze every last drop out of a GPU or CPU and have a number to quantify that.

I've had very few benchmarks that actually ran my gtx 670's at 100% gpu usage in SLI

having a game with 16x AA and superscaling will push your gpus much harder

Never really cared. Honestly when I look at reviews for components and such, I don't go by their 3D Mark Score, I go with the FPS they output (I prefer basing it off the lowest fps).
