Hey, I have bought Diablo II this morning after a verry good friend adviced me this best-seller game to play it together but this is the problem after i read threads to resolve the problem I am having: I uninstall d2, I reboot my PC, I install d2, I put on compatibility mode on Windows Xp(Service pack 2), I reboot my PC, I start Diablo II, I get a black screen and then i return to my desktop and i see UNHANDLED EXEPTION: ACCES_VIOLATION (c0000005).

I have windows vista 64 bit, DirectX10, 8800GTX 768MB video card, standard soundcard, and i'm 99% shure my drivers are 100% up to date.

Please help me, I've read a lot of forums to resolve this issue and i don't know what to do anymore...

There is also a patch from billizard you need. That said it works kind of flaky. Example, if you change a character during a game session, the graphics screw up.

Also, this game is so old its very possible that the 64bit part is the problem.

Make sure the patch from blizzard explictly states it works on 64bit Vista.

What patch???

I am going to assume that you picked up the Diablo Battlechest which has the expansion Lord of Destruction in it. In that case, you'll be wanting this patch. As for what it does...well, here.

Oh, and in the event that you do not have the expansion pack, here's the regular game patch.

i had the same problems with vista, but there are some things you can do:

1. go to the diablo II.exe file, go to properties, select ''compatibility"

then choose the desktop screen compression.

2. get the patch from blizzard: http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id-mdt0387p

3. log in as administrater and/or use windows xp service pack at the properties from the diablo, exe file
