I'd throw Dynamic World & Skill-based MMO's up on that list. Dynamic World meaning a game world completely open to you at the very start in which the players determine how it evolves, rather than moving from 1 zone to the next in search of the next XP grind. Ultima Online and SWG being 2 examples.
Skill-based MMO's meaning MMO's which feature skill development rather than levelling up. Again, UO and SWG being 2 examples. Level-based MMO's took the easy way out. It limits content, seperates the playerbase, removes the player from the world (since areas are temporary locations rather than permanent 'playgrounds'), and dumbs down combat.
UO is really the only example of the 2 that is worth mentioning because of how badly SWG turned out after/during beta, but atleast they tried to rekindle things.
