Sometimes while gaming on my laptop, my cpu will get up to 85 degree in one core and maybe 75-80 in the other one. Would this be considered dangerously high and if so, how do i fix this problem. thanks in advance.

If it's INtel then it's not really that dangerous but definitely unwanted, my i5 has been damaged by heat, i used stock cooler with stock thermal paste and was hitting 90c but i was stupid enough to ignore it and say "It'll be fine" and now my chip doesn't boost at all, 2.80Ghz is the max my chip will go up to manual or auto. So yeah it CAN be dangerous but from the offset i noticed my chip was barely overclockable as i couldn't even get it to 3.5Ghz without corruption and stability issues even on a third party cooler that barely reached 65c max, it depends on the quality of your chip and the brand, AMDs shouldn't go over 62c(i've heard).

Well i have an intel t9800 core 2 duo in my asus g50vt. I just heard that going over 80 degrees could be dangerous, so I just wanted to see what other people thought. I know its different for laptops than desktops, I just dont want to ruin my cpu. By the way Jedi, thats an awesome CS clip.

Celsius? and at what load?

If it's 80C idle, then you have a problem but 80C on full load is acceptable, but not a temp you'd want to run your PC at all the time.

It's fine when it's idle though. when idle it's about 45-52 degrees.

From what I am reading, that is within the tolerance of your laptops CPU chip.. 105C is to threshold before either your cpu throttles down or computer auto shuts off. Personally though, that seems really hot.. Do you have a cooler cooler attached to your laptop to help keep down the heat? Is the bottom of your computer elevated to help the exhaust heat move away from the laptop? Intel page for T9800 duel core laptop Chip

I have a dell studio 17 laptop with a 1st i5 2.49Ghz CPU and when playing BF2 I get to 85 too, after 2 hours of solid play my PC shut down.. and I have a cheapish cooler which does work a bit... so yeah just make sure you dont run at that temp for too long...

80-90C is normal for a laptop. It's not good, but normal. Most people replace them every 3 years so it should survive at least that long with those temps

Yeah I'd say it's fine. I've had mine hit over 100c on the AMD CPU before a few times. It's a little older, a TurionX2. They're known to get hot though.

For Intel, I had an MSI GX620 laptop (sold off), it was a P8400 and got up to around 90c playing games and never had issues. Getting a bit too hot though can slow things down, so if it's a problem, you can buy a laptop cooler.
