I've never played Counterstrike. I recently (as in, a few months ago) got into online gaming with Bad Company 2, and I play a little CoD4 and TF2 on the side. I saw the awesome deal of CSS with Garry's Mod for $6.24 and was wondering if it's worth it.

I hear the online CSS community is utterly brutal to new players. I'm pretty resilient and I try not to be useless, but I just haven't be gaming online for years like most people have. Is it too late to get into it?

No, a lot of people still play, and it's still really fun. The community can be pretty awful, but once you get good there's not as much to worry about.

There are a lot of veterans but there are also a lot of beginners too. The community howver isn't the most friendly. Also if you don't feel like playing competitively then there are plenty of mod servers like zombie escape(which is my personal favorite) to have fun in.

Bah, looks like the $6.24 sale isn't today. Guess they accidentally revealed that one early.

Might pick it up when it is, then. Thanks.

It's never too late. There are even "noobie servers" where people who play too good get autokicked so you can get to know the game a little better without dying every 5 seconds.

I've found that most of the games you'll find in CSS these days are some crappy map (like block fort mario kart 64 style) in deathmatch with 20 snipers on each side sniping at each other. I re-bought the game about 5 months ago, played maybe 12-14 hours and didn't find one single extraction / demo game, which IMO is where CSS really shines. If people want to play deathmatch, they should go play COD.

The best servers are found through communities with websites and forums, these places usually got several own servers with different maps and modes and good people playing since the admins play there themselves mantaining order. Can't help you find them though since it depends on your location, as example I got a few finnish and swedish servers which I always go to when I want to play (I'm from finland myself). Always low ping and good people to play with.

Not too late for anything, Got myself a copy only about a month or so from a friend; and for deal like that 6$ Garry's Mod+CSS you don't even think about the money; A) you get a game that 50k players still play today online which is worth 20$; B) you get the cool modding with tons of fun which is alone worth a 10$

You'll be begging for a cover system.

Also, it's very too late to get into CS:S, due to Counter-strike being the grandfather of hardcore gaming. You're better off keeping it for the Garrysmod.

I used to play CSS years ago, then I stopped. I picked it up early this year, and was terrible. But now that i've had time to practice, I'm signigantly better and can keep up with the game. The only thing is that if you want to be really good, I suggest picking a decent mouse if you don't have one already.

Pretty sure it still has the largest player base on steam so there is never a shortage of full servers.

It's not to late to get into it but just remember it's not one of those games where you can just get into, hold down trigger and spam an entire mag to kill 50 people across the map. You actually have to learn the shooting mechanics to get good at it.

The only time it's too late to get into a mp game is when nobody is playing it. Since CS:S is very popular all you need is patience. Patience to die 50 times before you get a kill and patience to suffer a 1:3 kill to death ratio or worse while you get your feet wet. Might take 10-20 hours, by that time you should know why you died, where you died from and how to win. From that point on it's a constant learning curve to get sligtly better, learn the maps, weapons.

Jokes? Quake 3 is the grandfather of hardcore gaming... Anyways, it's definitely not too late to get into Counter-Strike: Source. It's one of the most best multiplayer FPS games of all time.

If you like playing the same two maps over and over again then buy it...otherwise get something else. Sadly therent arent too many games like cs/s out atm that are worth playing.

Same 2 maps? CSS has like the biggest selection of maps of any FPS game I've played.

No cs does have a huge competitive scene but tons of people play non competitively just stick to fy_maps,gungame,zombie mods, Deathmatch and other non competitive mods to get used the game mechanics the default game is alot of fun but if you suck and start there you will spend hardly any time actually playing.

It's never too late to join and play. playing gun game maps (maps with gg_ in them) and deathmatch games are best to get use to the game. If you're a fan of 007 golden eye maps, join this server 75.126.63.118.27015

Add it to your favorites by looking at the IP address. Great maps, unlimited money, and great community they have there.

Personally I have had a FAR more enjoyable experience with Team Fortress 2 over CSS. It just seems the overall community in TFT2 is more welcoming than CSS's where I was flamed constantly for not knowing how to properly play, however this view is completely subjective to what servers I chose at random I guess.

I would find something else until battlefield 3 is released. The CS community is filled with aggressive teens that spend half their lives flaming each other. Team fortress 2 is a better bet.

Urgh, can't have a conversation about CSS without the Noob Fortress recruitment squad trying to take it over.

TF2 is F2P now anyways, so just buy CSS and get good at it then download and destroy TF2 if you're so inclined.

CSS still has a strong, though, aggressive community. Take a bag of patience, and you should get through the ugly-steep learning curve, and the douchebags that infest the servers. It's worth it; CS is revered for a reason.

No it isn't to late. There are a pretty good number of servers around and a few gaming communities that still have a CSS division.

Lol, too hard to aim fast enough in games that take actual skill eh?
