CoD 4's demo: "DX Error"

I keep receiving this error every time I change a graphical setting that requires the game to restart to take effect (example: the resolution or refresh rating):

"Direct X has encountered an unrecoverable error. Please check the readme for possible solutions."

First of all there is no readme. Any ideas? Thanks!

What'd you mean by the latest Dx version?

Does X1900 XTs support Dx 10?

I have the latest DX. The Call of Duty 4 demo COMES with the latest DX - - So I don't get it. I'm stuck in 800x600 resolution, and everyone else seems to have it working fine.

I dont get this when I change the settings... however it happend randomly in the game itselfto me. Only happend once though.

But I can change settings fine... full details and 1680x1050. I have and Q6600,2GB, 8600gt. (163.75)

yeah same for me, just crashes when you click apply

it was getting this problem, but I managed to partly fix it

go to C:/Program Files/Activision/Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare Demo/players/profiles/config

Open it with note pad

Don't alter anything (yet), press ctrl f and look for one of the values for the resolution (so for 800x600, look for 800 or whatever)

then change it to whatever you want it to be making sure not to change anything else but those numbers

I get a bit of a different issue Everything is fine, but once i start the mission briefing i get a DX error about 1/5 of the way loading. I tried everything, re-installing, updating dx9.0c (well trying to anyway)....I've looked through ALOT of forums and found nothing to fix this problem I dont think its my PC but incase it is my specs r.... Intel Pentium 4 2.4ghz ATI Radeon X800GTO 256mb 1.5gb DDR RAM DirectX 9.0c any help would be great.....i NEED to play this demo!!!!!Tooks101

I have the same exact problem as you, with the same specs except I have 2gb ddr ram instead of 1.5. please help :(

mate i have found the answer to fix your problem!!!

Roll your video card drivers to Catalyst 6.9 and your demo will work.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
