Paper clip in the tiny hole near the eject button or around there ... can be done in either on or off computer systems.

Yup good old paper clip trick. But this thread made me think. I dont think I have even attempted to open my cd-rom drive since installing windows....

I haven't either, well except for the first week... Now it doesn't work.

The only time I ever open my dvd drive is if I need to burn a disk. Which is very rarely. I could most likely do without. Hell I don't even install windows via a disk anymore. USB thumb drive is much faster.

had left my DVDRW out this build but just kept bugging me it wasn't there. probably used it 5 times in the last 2 years to burn my mother some video DVDs. really couldn't tell you how long since i burned an audio CD. flash is so much faster and easier, CD\DVD is almost pointless now.

was thinking about getting Blu-ray burner but i'm sure it would get the same amount of use as the other. besides have 7TB of external drives so no reason to store anything on those prehistoric "disks".

I was expecting a thread from like 5 years ago. I haven't even had a cdrom in my system since last decade.
