Can I back up my computer on DVD + R discs?

I am considering upgrading my computer but i need to know if i can back up my data on these discs or if there is a free service that will temporarily back up my data?

You can easily back up your data (documents etc) to DVD discs. And if you are only updating your current computer (eg. CPU, graphics), there is a good chance that you won't need to restore the data, as your old install will work. You may need to do a repair installation, depending on what you are doing, but that won't destroy your data.

But by all means, back up ypur essentail files. Better safe then cocky 8)
