The games are gonna have to be much more tatical if they're making it in modern times. Or, maybe they're gonna do something along the lines of an alternative time line, like a WWIII or something.

I love WW2 games but I think it's time for a change for CoD. I don't really want a modern combat but maybe a Vietnam setting or WW1.

I would love to see a WW1 game, but since it is "modern warfare" I am pretty sure it is not.

WW1 would be amazing. Think of the massive battles and open ended gameplay that could create. Thats what I want.

I doubt we'll see any gameplay in the trailer.  It'll most likely be one of those crappy CG trailers they always put on.

I'm more than ready for modern combat.

Any one else think this is really lame. Sure, since it worked in BF so it's almost sure to work with cod, but why can't they think of their own dam ideas.

A WWI game would not be like that at all.  It'd more like sitting in a trench for a week shooting over the top every so often.  If you weren't one of the many that died going over the top into deadman's land you slowly died in the trenchs from one of the many diseases that ran rampant in there.  Or you died from chemical weapons.

I mean, explain to me how a WWI game would be fun...

Hmm.....WWI....Yeah, that would be awesome! I'd be happy if even if they kept it WWII but there just aren't enough WWI games, or should I say none that I can think of.

I played a WW1 mod for HL1 and its awsome. And there are just as boring moments in WW2, like sitting around in a base. And just imagine running over the trenches with tons of other guys and cannons being fired and bi-planes flying over head dropping chemicals on you. That would be awsome.

Well if they did WWI they could focus on major attacks/defenses. To help the combat they could work on a improved melee combat, for when things get up close. And/or they could have you constantly swapping weapons, searching the dead for a gun with a bullet in it still.

You're not alone. WW2 has been done to death. Call of Duty style gameplay in a current day setting would be great, IMO. Another WW2 FPS? Not so interested.

Same, i quit Battlefield when 2 came out. Call of Duty and Battlefield are only meant for WW2 as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, but not after every shot like he said. The truth is, WWI would never make a good, let alone decent game. The subject matter simply couldn't support the gameplay we expect these days.

COD should have decided to do Vietnam rather than modern warfare. there is only a couple decent vietnam games out there and everyone loves a good nam game. plus, whatever COD is, its always kick A$$, so we would have ourselves probably the best vietnam game ever made. there are allready a good amount of solid modern combat games. but either way, i look forward to it!

Do not forget that they are trying to appeal to a internation public not just the U.S; so the Vietnam theatre honestly would not appeal to a lot of people, except North Americans, some Europeans, and probably Asians.  But still, a Vietnam game would be pretty sweet from Cod developers, but I am sure Modern Warfare will offer some scenarios in jungles, or forsests that will resemble a Vietnamese atmosphere.  Cannot wait for this new installment in the COD series.

i, too, would rather see them stick with an older theme (the korean war never gets any games, (dogfights between f-86 sabres and old migs, challenging and 'pretty' terrain)...aint it time for maybe a highly polished cinematic dark Vietnam single player game(m16's jamming, option to shoot anybody with consequences,'interaction' w/ civilians, jeeps and land armor getting stuck and breaking down, disease, nasty brothels and drug dens, im serious...).....

Its not the setting really though that can make a great game or fps, specifically in this generation of gaming, its new ideas and more fleshed out environments, interactions, and cliche but most important-"feel"....the fps has to take you to a level of immersion and control unheard of 5 years ago...

i show my dad (50 years old) certain things from various games i play and he goes holy poo..with the upcoming dx10 environment and capabilites i want something to happen that hasnt happened for awhile  when i boot up a fps.. i wanna go holy poo......and you know what? for all the fancy lighting, shading  and such...its gonna be a game with a completely different or evolved way of playing the game thats gonna make people want to play and support the game...it happened when half-life, half-life 2, oblivion, etc. came out....a new twist or more fleshed out interaction that suck you in to the world....

another thing worth noting is that one of the biggest things that makes COD so awesome are those crazy war moments. im talking about the stalingrad moments, or the point du hoc moments where this huge epic battle rages and all you can see is chaos all around you. Now when you think of modern combat, its small units...small skirmishes. there arent hundreds of guys running around and complete chaos its more tactical and slower paced for the most part. so these epic moments wont seem to be as epic if you ask me.

if you ask me, if anyone, the Brothers in arms games should go modern combat (id still rather them be WW2) because at least those games work with small scale skirmishes between a couple squads. and the command system would be cool in a modern setting. but at the end of the day we all know COD will pull through and make an awesome game...so its all good.

This is why I didn't want CoD4 to go this way. I enjoyed the last CoD games because of the big moments like Hill 400, Pointe Du Hoc, Stalingrad and such. In modern combat you don't rush in and hope you're still alive in the end, you just hide behind crap and shoot when shot at. This is safer in real life but boring in fps games. I think this game will probally turn out great but I would like to see a Call of Duty version of Vietnam, Battlefield sucked it up imo.

Nooooo, CoD should stay in WWII imo. Even though there are lots of WWII shooters, there are equally, or more modern shooters. I think CoD should stay at what it does best and expand on WWII.

Even though, I'm certain this will be an awsome game.

It would be kind of cool if CoD made a game featuring you to play as axis with the germans, japan and Italy. Or at least have a story in the Pacific Theatre.

Look at this, it will seem familiar......... 8)

ISF Lieutenant Genral

Now LOOK AT THE RANK on the above photo.

Now look at The Flags Below

Flag at Background

CoD 4 FLAG at Background

I Can Say clearly this game will take place on the middle east with Russian weapons and Middle Eastern soldiers, The Red Flag with The yellow Star IS NOT Chinese OR Russian , the 2 Swords coming up is DEFINATEly Arab country, its called Mushir Rank.

If you go to wikipedia.org you can put in Mushir and the Egypts and Saudis Rank have same Design.

Im pointing this out cuz some ppl have told me its the Russian flag when it CLEARLY isnt.

Now to wwait for the game and Have some fun, to bad its till next year.... probably...

Rusty is right. The picture shows two swords and a star. The former Soviet Union flag was comprised of a hammer and sickle (current flag of Russia is a horizontal tricolor of white, blue, and red), while the current Chinese flag is comprised of stars.
