you're in luck. I recommend the amd c50 fusion netbook, it is without rival in sub $500 category. It comes with a dual core 1.0ghz processor, 1 gig ram, wireless b/g/n, up to 7.5 hours of battery life (light usage) but typically gets around 5-6 hours. It also comes with a good video card (compared to the other crappy cards in intel based netbooks). The screen is 720p....on a 10inch screen HD movies are gorgeous. It costs around $279 plus tax, but I got mine for $243 plus tax due to some specials. I also upgraded the ram to 4 gigs, and planning to upgrade os to win 7 64 bit. No intel based netbook compares unless you spend more than $500 for an intel atom plus ion at which point you can just buy an i3 ultraportable laptop that rapes the netbook. Im not sure if its being sold in the states though you might have to look around.

that sounded like an advert :P
just sayin..
and for about 100 more in canadian dolalrs you can get a turion II ultra (dual core equal to an athalon II x2) 2.3ghz hd 4330 and 4gb ram at futureshop.ca
Well I think it is a great netbook, and there really isn't anything that competes with it in the sub $400 category :D I guess im pretty happy with my netbook, though I heard AMD will soon release a version of this netbook that oc's to 1.33 ghz....damn it tech evolves too fast.
Also that turion is good and all but youd lose the battery life/portability/weight advantages of a netbook. Most people who buy netbooks are students and they need something light to carry around in their backpacks which are usually loaded with books. Another thing is that if you spend an extra $100 more from that turion II you could get a sandy bridge laptop with decent battery life and hd 3000 gfx....see it never ends.
