I use defraggler as well. The quick defrag option is very useful.

I prefer O&O Defrag myself and it's one of the best imo. Unfortunately it's not free, except it was for me as I got a corporate edition for free from my friends company :D

They're all pretty much the same these days, i use the windows built in one as it is easy to set a schedule and it's very unintrusive.

How often you guys defrag, because it sounds like very often, not something I would do.magicalclick

Whenever I install or remove a program. So not that often. Maybe once or twice a month?

Since my disk remains lightly fragmented the process only takes 10-15 minutes.

I personally think that's too frequent. But, do what you think is right.

Data can be stored in pieces all over your HD ... wherever Windows finds available space. Defragging organizes the pieces in one place .. so your HD doesn't have to look all over the HD to collect the Pieces/Parts.This speeds up the search.

But its not that great, it leaves alot of gaps between data causing the harddrive to read through the free space as its going along trying to find the data.

Mine's scheduled once a day at 1am since I leave my pc on all the time, it works great. I don't really think you need after market defragment programs anymore. Also to people who say defragging too much is bad, well if the scan takes 30 seconds and the defrag takes 1 minute, then it's not a problem.

The only time defragging is bad is when it's a SSD so yeah i agree. Afterall drives are designed and built for reading and writing and have had i don't know about 30 years of effort into making them so it's safe to say defragging is not bad even long defrags.

Also mine is set to defrag once every week, works fine.
