Bohemia have posted that up on their site, and there is a press release due in the next 15 minutes! Woooh, the greatest MilSim (well only) is getting a new incarnation.

Includes PhysX Support amongst other things

EDIT - http://www.arma3.com/#homepage offical site

It could look the same as ARMA 2 with little improvement, and I would be happy.. AS long as it is considerably more optimized.. and runs better (after seeing those screenshots, I do not think this will be the case, focusing too much on graphics, while it will probably run like crap.

Excelent!

The bad part is that it seems they are using the same engine and we all know it's issues.

It'll be probably a smaller map size than the predecessor. I wish they could replicate in part Sardinia (Where I was born). I'm happy if they go for Greece too, though.

Just maybe. You can never really judge til you're playing the game. Like with what they've shown of BF3 it might be just barely edging Crysis but when gamers get control to pick out certain graphics aspects themselves it might be another story. I'm still iffy on its looks.

I'm excited.

Looks like it uses the same engine, which makes complete sense for them. Hopefully they have been doing a lot of rewriting to make the engine more stable and the AI less crappy.

Switching to a new engine would nearly kill the modding community. Besides there are no other game engines out there with the ability to make open-world maps work like ArmA's can.

A new engine for a studio that small isn't going to happen. It doesn't need to happen. Modders have shown that the ArmA 2 AI can be great with some extra work. BI watches their modding community closely, it's what gives them the ideas. They work hand-and-hand with modders to make sure that they can get the most content out of that engine as possible.

ArmA 2 OA is much better optimized and it gets better every patch. They know what they are doing on the back end and will continue to make improvements.

Really? I tried the OA and I found the performance to be... dissapointing TBH, I might get the full version soon so I hope it runs better.

Also, what do you mean with the AI thing? The AI is bad?

Yeah the AI is pretty terrible. They are forced to use really cheap variables for their accuracy to make up for a lack of skill.

I honestly don't think the infantry A.i is that terrible at all; one of its biggest faults is the animation tree system - the A.i, appears a lot more stupid than it actually is. Though mods have improved it substantially in regards, I have to admit, stuff like accuracy was initially ridiculous on release versions.

Vehicles though? Oh yes, it's not good.

edit*

I'm also curious how Bohemia managed to financially support a full sequel. I thought they were somewhat in the rough, and liscencing VBS2 hadn't been as lucrative as VBS1 post ArmA I. Digital distribution to the rescue?

each of our titles was and is economical success so we can afford to have more than 4 studios ;)

http://www.bistudio.com/index.php/english/home/news/company/190-bohemia-interactive-grows-in-strength

in development are3+ titles at once

(ARMA 3 www.arma3.com ,Take On Helicopters www.takeonthegame.com , Carrier Command: Gaea Mission www.carriercommand.com , etc.)

:) while still supporting A2/OA with updates and public betas http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=82

and our serious games simulation division http://www.bistudio.com/index.php/english/company/simulations

is going so bad that we got recently mentioned in NY Times :) http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/02/technology/02gameside.html?src=busln

do i mentioned we gotmotion capture, 3D scanning, pro-fi sound&music section http://pro.bistudio.com/

and publishing section Idea Games whichis used by e.g. french Cryo etc.

now You know - that we are biggest game studio in central Europe :)

note: not just online sales are good but our retail sales are strong too, hence why we released RFT (DLCs on DVD) http://www.bistudio.com/index.php/english/games/arma-2-series/reinforcements

ARMA2 and Operation Arrowhead are some of the best bang for buck this gen imo.

I just picked up ARMA 2 Combined Operations at Walmart today. I thought $20 was a steal. So far, it is very complex and really cool to see all of the different features in the game. I cannot wait for this.

You work for Bohemia?

I'm very jealous what can I say, and I completely forgot about the Carrier Command reboot and Taken On Helicopters, and correct me if I'm wrong but does Bohemia also own Sprocket?

Otherwise that does make sense, I've always bought Bohemia's games at retail from Flashpoint onwards, and I really am thoroughly surprised and pleased to see it develop even more as an independent dev.

Though one niggling question, what about the Australian division of Bohemia that was responsible for VBS? I can't say I've been up to date on their happenings since the release of VBS2.

edit*

The Times article seemed to clear most of that up actually, I'm impressed that there is such a clean divide between commerical and training product in revenue.

Oh wow, it's a pleasure to meet you then, if BIS ever ends up opening a division in the UK I'll be knocking on the door. That's also a good point too about the Times article date and I'm willing to bet Sprocket's profit margins have been increasing post BAF and PMC addition to the growing library; personally I only started using it last year. and ArmA 2 itself seems to be gaining more attention from the wider gaming community post Operation Arrowhead, I'm sure the Steam sales have helped pull hesitant buyers. All great news!

So what are the good websites for ARMA II and ARMA II: Operation Arrowhead mods? After I finish my current games (The Witcher 2 and LA Noire) Imma finally start playing these games. Never started because I wanted plenty of time to sit down and learn the game, which I now have!

EDIT: Forgot to mention you guys are awesome for creating this game. Even more awesome for constant support even though your recent games kill my system. Looks too good to turn down settings though :)
