Well pinning down numbers is next to impossible, and you'd have a tough time defining terms since one person could say anyone w/ a pc that has minesweeper on it is a "pc gamer", or another person would say "you have to buy 6 games a year to qualify as a pc gamer". There's really no good way to actually get a number for this.

What we can get good numbers on is sales, and though Valve, Blizzard, and EA may have some good PC sales reports much more money comes in from console games.

Consoles are very easy for kids and casual gamers to buy and hook up. PC gaming is quite complicated sometimes and most people dont have enough time for things like that. But a lot of people who take gaming as a real hobby often go for high-powered PC's. PC hardware is more flexible and games developed for it are more advanced both graphics and gameplay wise.

So its safe to say more people are console gamers, Its easy for kids because they usually play off of their parents HD setup and the price of consoles are appealing to parents. A lot of people also have HD setups as sort of a standard and buying a console would be much easier for them.

PC gaming is still more advanced and is better than ever right now. Think of it this way, anyone with a big powerful expensive PC can truly be considered a hardcore gamer and among the 'elites'. There are still thousands and thousands and thousands of us though :).

Are you serious? I'll jump all over this because as the famous proverb goes "there are no stupid questions just stupid answers" they never read PC game forum topics. Certainly one with well over 1,000 post can think of a better discussion topic than this. Might I add another appropriate addage in computer jargon that sums up this topic..."GIGO" Garbage in, Garbage out.

No, there's not more console gamers than PC gamers.

Anyone who plays games on the PC, regardless of the age of the game, is a PC gamer. Someone who plays Windows Solitaire for hours a day is a PC gamer.

Now if the question was are there more console gamers than next-gen PC gamers (ie: quadcore CPU, latest video cards)... well, there probably are.

anyone know how many 360's have been sold so far. reason i am asking is that considering wow has 9million active users and steam has about i think 12million users, if you seperate all the consoles out the PC user base just from those figures is probably the next highest after the PS2.

Plus in germany the PC version of games (cod4 and boshock) outsell the console versions and germany is the third biggest games market

its hard to say for sure, but probably more PC users

oh and in south korea starcraft is a big big national sport, so i guess they must have a fair few pc gamers.

Thing is we only really get reports of game sales from the US, Japanand UK. To get a better picture it would be good if they released some world wide stats.

sorry last post and i am off to bed, but anyone know how many players are online for the 360 at any given time. For the PC according to game-monitor right now there are:

Total Players/Max: 188,242 / 2,134,063 (8.82%)

According to gamespy there are:

225,774 gamers are online right now

Again doesn't give a complete picture but atleast you get a general idea how many gamers are atleast playing multiplayer games (excludes mmo's)

The real question is : Are there more console games then PC games ?

I would say yes there are more console gamers. Consoles are cheaper, up until recently there was no installing / patching games. Even so it's more streamlined on consoles, there aren't issues/compatibly problems with playing or patching game. You don't ever hear people asking "Hey is this PS3 game compatible with my PS3?" I think there are more console gamers (people that take gaming more seriously than just solitaire) just because of the shear ease to play them.

I would say PC gamers are more dedicated to their games, they are willing to fix / work around problems. I prefer being a PC gamer. I feel like I am ahead of the curve; graphics, physics, sound, modability, and game depth all seem superior on the PC. I feel the community is more mature and dedicated to their games. Anyways I am rambling on too much about being a PC gamer.

Depends if you count casuals or not. There's over 100 million PS2's sold, but everyone plays Solitaire on their PC.

PC gaming can't even begin to compare with console gaming as a whole, but if you narrow it down to current-gen consoles online, then no, PCs still can't compare.

There are way, way mroe console gamers than PC gamers. You only have to look at game charts to see that - pick any multiplat title and it's near guaranteed to sell more on any console than on PC.

But one of the interesting things about PC gamers is how specialised some of them are. There are literally millions of people who only play MMOs, hundreds of thousands - maybe even millions - who only play online shooters. Hundreds of thousands who only play RTS games. How many hundreds of thousands don't even buy PC games at all?

The numbers are just impossible to work out, but there's no coincidence that publishers focus on console gaming more than PC gaming - they go where the money is. Money = sales = players.

There are no figures out there for things like this. If we go on hardware sales then how many home PCs are there in the world? enough said!

The thing I like about pc gamers is that games last longer on pc. on console, the next big game comes out and everyone moves the that game. pc games have a longer life.
