Anyone else who still prefer 2D over 3D games?

Being both a console and MMO gamer, I've been wondering if, taking into consideration how fast technology is evolving, if there is still a market for 2D games. I personally prefer cel-shading like renders (I guess even 3D ones that look like celshading, ala No More Heroes) then 2D and then 3D. It's just too easy to botch 3D graphics, most especially the facial expressions.

Anyway, here are, I think, excellent examples of both:

Wonderking

Trine

I think 2D will always be present, just like pixel art exists in one form or another. But maybe I only think like this because I grew up on 2D graphics. Well, do you think 2D still has a chance?

I'm a sucker for 2D games if they have hand-drawn graphics. And I mean not just crappy MS Paint quality, but you know, something more like this:

Still, I prefer 3D games but I enjoy both. Games that have 3D graphics but 2D gameplay are not very appealing to me though, for some reason.

Guilty Gear X2 and yes it is, the page says that the release is TBA but it has been out for years at least in Europe. One of the best fighters on PC imo, the other games in the series have been ported too.

No I cant name any games I still want in such a strict 2d fashion. Im okay with cel-shade and handrawn but not a 2d world like MapleStory. I liked ragnarok online which was 2d characters 3d world, old game T.T awesome times. 3d>2d if you make me choose I am not saying is better is just that I like it better. Maybe I want some sonic back in 2d :)))

I've forgotten about 2d games since videogames have branched out from sidescrollers. However I bought trine last week and find it very enjoyable.

Even side-scrollers like Trine look much better in 3D form imo. There are few exceptions, like Castlevania for instance.

I love both, but most of the time I prefer 3D, but who can pass on those awesome 2D games like Braid? :P

They both have their value, it's just that 3d is way overused. There needs to be a bigger support for the beautiful platform that is 2d:

I like Side Scrollers/ 2D view games with 3D characters. A hybrid of the two so to speak. That Guilty Gear X2 for instance looks great, with it's graphics style.

I've been playing Spelunky lately and enjoying it immensely.

It is a freeware game developed by Derek Yu, available here:http://www.spelunkyworld.com/

Sometimes a 2D platform can be the only option for your innovation, here levels are procedurally generated for a wholly disparate experience each time. Yu's world obeys all the laws one expects and perhaps this only possible through a 2D platform. It shows that a 3D world is not necessary to strike one with awe and excitement. I encourage everyone to try it out.
