I bought the game yesterday after giving into all the fuss to see what the big deal was and I wasn't impressed in the least. The community is terrible and gameplay was ok. Graphics were good but the main killer is I was thinking to myself "why do people pay $15 a month when they have to wait to get into a realm and is full of immature kids?" Just curious on others takes.

I also found it very hard to find a server with a good community, but when I finally did I enjoyed the game.

not so much dislike as just never had any interest in it in the first place. i've played several mmo games but despite all the hype, i never felt any urge to play that one. never understood what's so great about it

When I was still playing WoW, it started to drag about when I hit level 20, and I just couldn't stand to play anymore.

I raided and was in a top guild pre-bc and then when bc came out, i started again and that game is just a pointless endless gear grind PVP and PVE. you can sum up 80% of the wow community just go the barrens and mention Chuck Norris.

Referring to not playing the game till your lvl 70 If you get tired of the game before you get sucked into the pointlessness of it all be glad. Being 70 just means finding groups with morons and pvping with people who have no life's and kill you by being in there divine presence

My take is...

The community is great

The graphics are exactly what they are meant to be... which is good enough for me (and I am playing Conan now, so don't go there)

The gameplay was fun enough to keepme for 4+ years

The guilds I was associated with were all parents so the immaturity factor didn't exist for me.

To make a long story short.... I disagree with you.

I actually had more fun PRIOR to becoming a lvl 60 (pre-BC)....once I hit level 60 it felt like the game didn't serve a purpose outside of grinding for gear...which in turn would help me get better gear... it just wasn't anything I was interested in...I gave up the game maybe a month after hitting 60 because the raiding scene was far too boring for me ( it felt like a chore)

I don't dislike wow but I'm also not a wow hater. I got to lvl60, realized that jees... getting to lvl70 is gonna take me atleast a month..I just can't do it. Pretty much, for me WoW takes too much time to get to a point where it's fun. I love how the game looks, the feel, and some of the people are cool and the PvP is awesome but I just think it takes too much time which ultimatly kills it for me. I like WoW, that's why I played it, but I couldn't take how long it is.

If you are only giving WoW a try because you "wanna know what the fuzz is about", you clearly wasted your time. If you're not REALLY interested in WoW before trying it, you just wont like it. I installed that game 3 years ago KNOWING that I was going to be addicted and KNOWING it was gonna be a fantastic experience. I played nearly 4000 hours total before quitting the game. WoW has something in common with other RPGs, the beginning isn't too much fun it's all about patience. Only the ones who can get through the first few hours of the game get to REALLY enjoy it.

I have to agree with Johnny_Rock , yet I do wish they would make it a little less linear in terms of level 70 content....I kinda would like more PvP like not just Horde v Alliance, but guilds and minor factions fighting. More like Conan...they should make a "Guild Island" or so and expand it.

The first few hours of the game are a blast, you're leveling up faster than you can understand what's going on, you're seeing new areas that are breathtaking. Imagine the first time you went into your race's major city and realized, "Holy eff, there are a ton of people here! Look at how huge this place is!" Those were awesome feelings, and if it had stayed like that I'm sure WoW would still be installed on my machine. It's not, though. After you get far enough, you get stuck in the same area doing boring quests for what seems like forever...

Same here. Playing with friends (IRL) was the driving point of me continuing on with the game. When one friend dropped out, so did I (my other friend surpassed me).

That said, there are some defining points in the early game that are certainly interesting (like, as one poster mentioned) the first time you hit that races capital. It is rather impressive. However, the combat is rather hum-drum early on (and still rather dull later, but that's my own opinion). As you level up, gain a wider variety of skills, and a more aesthetic collection of loot (past simple rags and cloth crap hanging off your character like hand me downs for an older brother) it does flesh out a bit. If your still in the trial phase (eg: not paying), I say give it more time. Once the whole thing really gets going, it's more enjoyable over all.
