I found my GF's old laptop which she doesn't use anymore, and restored it from being filled with viruses and other malicious content, bloatware etc. and made it into a fine Internet browsing/email reading/document writing computer.

However, are there any fun games I can play on it?

Specs:

OS: Vista SP2

AMD Turion 64 X2 1.8 GHz 2 cores

2 GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS 128 MB

It's a HP Pavilion dv6500 Notebook PC

Thanks guys!

Hmm, thank you for those suggestions.

I'm not very big on strategies. FEAR1, GTA2 and DOOM3 I've already played. Might give TES and DE a go though.

Most (not all) Indie titles should work and then there's always GoG.com.

"Source" games might run (counter-strike source, half-life 2, portal). You might also be able to run any Unreal Engine 2 stuff (like Unreal II, UT 2003/2004, Tribes: Vengeance, SWAT 4). The first Far Cry might run. GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas probably will run also.

Don't forget about all the web game portals out there. They have tons of small free games that are fun to play and can run on most PC's. Check out Kongregate.. BigFish etc..

Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas run fine on my terrible laptop, I can also mod the games and they still run fine.

Try SWAT4 if you are interested in police tactics. Brothers in Arms series like Earn in Blood and Road to Hill30 are also quite tactical. Conflict: Global Storm is a fascinating TPS which doesn't require a high hardware capability. Mount & Blade: Warband is definitely a great ARPG, but somewhat maverick among others, i don't know if you will accept its style.

Tons. Just play classics modern or old, emulators or titles easy on your system.

Have you even tried? The Source engine is almost a decade old. I've run Source games on older laptops than yours.

All the old-school RPGs like Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Planescape: Tornment will all run great and there's a LOT of content to each one of those games.

And, of course, The Longest Journey and probably Dreamfall. :)
