Hey guys, posted not too long ago about possibly building a PC. After asking before, someone suggested to follow the build on bit-tech for the "gaming workhorse". I figured this seems like a reasonable price and it would hopefully suffice for my first gaming PC. I was just searching for some of the parts, but was unsure if I was ordering all of the right ones. If someone could take the time to glance I would greatly appreciate it. Here is the bit-tech suggested build link: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/buyers-guide/2011/03/10/pc-hardware-buyer-s-guide-march-2011/4 Here are the parts I was going to order off of amazon: CPU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EBUXHQ/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A35DL6C7BAXYRR Motherboard: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QF0VEK/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A2JUPN4BTA3CZV Memory: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LE8D2A/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER Graphics Card: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004JLNZXU/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER PSU: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RTPMLK/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A33Y0YQUZ2NYD5 CPU Cooler: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003DW0GO2/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER Case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002M78KZG/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER Optical Drive: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002QGDWLK/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER HDD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001U3S5S0/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER SSD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003SV6CIC/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=A3G718E6FQZF1I Sound Card: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002VAD716/ref=ord_cart_shr?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER I just wanted to make sure all of the parts matched up before I drop all of this dough haha. I think what I still have left is monitor, k/m, and Windows 7? Does all this look good? And thanks for dealing with my noobiness :)

yes but i found a better gpu for cheaper

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130611

evga gtx 560 ti w/ free copies of mafia II and just cause II

and again cheaper cpu no additional strings

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072&Tpk=core%20i5%202500k

also why the case and sound card? if you dont have a sound system or 100 dollar + headphones you dont need a sound card.. heck even then argueably.

in the event your willing to compromise on the case might i recommend something a little cheaper from antec

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021&cm_re=antec_900-_-11-129-021-_-Product
i have this one and personnally i wouldnt trade her for the world.. but she is a bit heavy when fully laden she even has water cooling support, she cools nicely and looks awesome no matter what light or room you put her in and its plenty spacious.

Wow, thanks a lot bro. So if I change those 2 parts would I have to change anything else then? This is the first PC I have ever attempted to "build". Also with a PC such as this one, what am I going to be looking at performance wise? Can it handle most games on high settings, and do you think it will still be able to with games such as Battlefield 3 and near future releases?

And I guess the only reason I chose that case and the sound card is just because that is what that website suggested haha. Not gonna lie at all man, I know absolutely nothing about computers. So this is truly all new to me, I was basically just using that suggested build as a template.

k the case is for high end machines with like 2+ video cards or 600 dollar+ cards and the sound card is only if you invest money in a sound system worth discussing.. no 2 dollar speakers from wal-mart there.

so yeah cut back to an antec 900 or similarly priced case another good one would be say a rosewill challenger or cooler master haf 912

as well if it can be helped NEVER buy parts off amazon their the devil.. i only recommend the odd bargain here n there.

you did quite well actually msot of this fits nicely.

oh one more thing if it wasnt in the budget in the first place axe the SSD to its over excessive i dont have one in fact very few people do its sort of an advanced level users thing.. basically you install your operating system on them rather than the HDD (as is the normal way) and it makes your pc boot faster while taking up no space on the ahrd drive but really when your talking terabytes here.. 40gb of space taken by your OS is minimal.

pocket the savings or put them towards a better gpu like an hd 6950 2gb

such a system as is though can play most any game on highest settings possible at like 1080p (1920 x 1080) resolution or smaller.

now that should get you set for a while yet.. have fun! now if you dont mind im off to go play singularity

Ok so just to be correct I do not need to buy a sound card then? Do you recommend ordering off of newegg or tigerdirect? And you think this setup will be able to handle modern games on high settings then? If not maybe I should look around more, but I do not want to go overboard price wise since this is my first one. Thanks a lot for all your help man, been a lifesaver.

I would go for a faster memory. Also, if you use any of the RAM demanding apps (like Adobe illustrator or After Effects) I qould recommend 8GB, because 4GB is sometimes a real pain in the ass.
