So my 8600GTX is REALLY starting to show its age, and is im now returning to PC gaming ive decided to upgrade it. Now, im on a tight budget (going to uni in a few weeks) but im selling a few things and getting to together £80. I can get a 9800 for £73 but a 9600 for £50. So my question to the fine people here at gamespot is:

"Will a 9600 cut it?"

Thanks guys

Nope, you have to get the 9800.

The 9600 is not that good.

If you're upgrading from an 8600GTX, going to a 9600 isn't a major upgrade. You'll notice some improvements in frame rate, but if you want a real solid upgrade, you're definitely going to want to go for the major improvement of the 9800. The differences between the two are quite large.

You should never cheap out on graphics cards!

With poor graphics cards you'll have poor gaming performance. That's why Console gamers hate the PC because they think it sucks due to their bad graphics cards in their system.

You need to have a decent graphics card to play games! Only then will you appreciate PC gaming!

By the way I am also going to University this september. I also upgraded recently to a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4890 OC card from an old 8600GT.

The 4890 OC card only costs £179.99 and is hell lot better than the 9800GT!

That really would be stretching the budget a long way... I have to spend 3k on a new saxophone as well! haha

Why not sacrifice?:D

I believe the graphics card is more important than a saxaphone at this stage.

Because with a saxaphone you will only be instrumenting on it really.

If you get a decent graphics card I can almost promise you that you wouldn't want to buy anything else, because you'll be hooked into gaming!

By the way, don't get too addicted to gaming.:P Concentrate on your degree at University, that will earn you tons of money when you graduate!:D

The 9800GT maxes nearly every game at a decent resolution.
