actually not really, games are getting vram hungry these days as another poster said

higher res textures need more vram, no matter what res you play at

crysis is a perfect example of that as the 880gts 640 mb version is the rec spec for the video card, notice not the 320 mb version

not that 256 will kill you, especially if you are on a budget, but for only 40-50 bucks more the 512 is wayyy better deal.

Its 2007, anything less than 512 is silly at this point if you ask me

Nothing that dumps the heat outside of the case? I guess I shouldn't be too concerned, i think this card is more efficient than the x1900gt i have now. thx for the suggestions.

As for CDW, the 8800GT 512 is $286 and $320 there now. CDW 8800GT search results

o and btw way liberal, i checked out the link, they didnt even test crysis which is the game i mentioned to begin with

of course they performed very similar in all those other games because those games dont need as much vram, but youll notice when they cranked up the aa and AF (which most people will agree is very important) the 256mb version started to lag behind

if they tested out both cards on crysis the 512 would have beaten the 256 by at the very least 10 fps at high settings or more.

10 fps is worth 40-50 more bucks. its your video card, dont skimp on it (unless you are on a budget like i said earlier)

so true, i'm not falling in that trap again. the 6600gt I got with 128mb vram was serverly vram limited and caused all sorts of probelms

so true, 256mb was fine for 05/06 but now its almost 08 256mb is getting on the low side

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed....

razorsedge is right, and they didnt test any of the games that really use recent engines (other than the U3 engine, which isnt very VRAM sensitive.) To name a few games that will kick a 256MB cards ass, World in Conflict, Crysis, and probably most games coming out in the future.

The difference between 40 to 50 and 50 to 60 fps isn't one I am willing to pay $80 for (the REAL extra cost for the extra 1/4 gig now), but then again, I'm not concerned with digital peeing contests. As for aa/af, the only real differences were in 16x10 or greater, and without it, which is what I was comparing, seeing as how you made no mention of it before now, only a couple games showed any real difference even at 19x12. As for crysis, I don't see any links to reviews that tell me you're right, but, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here. With that said, people who are willing to pay through the nose to play one game when the price for a card that can play it will be drastically less in just a couple months immediately prove beyond all doubt that it is indeed possible to have more money than brains. It's why I didn't take my tax refund check and run out and buy an 8800GTX/S this year. Patience is a virtue, but is apparently quite rare among gamers. I guess I should thank the impatient ones, they pay all amd and nvidia's r&d costs while I reap the benefits of greater performance at reduced prices. :twisted:
