I am currently using an 8800 Ultra, and play the game at 1600x1200 on Medium. If I run very high details, the game runs under 20fps on my machine. For similar speed to 1600x1200 medium, I can run 1024x768 with 8xAA and very high, or 1280x1024 with 0AA on very high.
The latest issue of PC Gamer has a section on building a gaming PC, and with a Q6600 cpu, the 8800 GT, and 2 GB ram, he averaged 58 fps at 1600x1200, medium and 0AA. At 1280x1024 on High, he averaged 43fps - 0AA.
Anyway, the 8800GT would probably be a good card for the price and performance you would get out of it.
i would go mostly with 8800GT and if you dont mind to pay somethign like 30~50$ more to get the new 8800GTS (G92) i would get this one isntead.
It will give something like 10~15% performance over the GT, so you consider if its worth it you or not.
the ultra, if you got the cash, cuz its really expensiveAl3x_n90well i think its awaste of money. Ultras are sold for more than 600$ probably almost 700$ so if he want to spend such an amout then he should wait afew weeks and get the new 9800gx2 and he will finish paying less than 1 ultra at most
dont get the GT, get the GTS, the GTS (512mb) is faster, runs cooler, is more quiet, and can be overclocked further, for 50 more bucks, its well worth itRiki101Agreed.

Yeah, get the GTS. It can be had for really not much more expensive aswell.

it would be smarter to buy the baseline version, pay less, and then overclock it yourself to the factory overclocked settings. if you're worried about screwing things up, just post here and someone will help guide you through rivatuner. it's really easy, though. you just have to monitor your temperatures, adjust fan settings once in a while, look for visual artifacts, and occasionally reboot your PC. after all is said in done, you will have acquired a new skill)
now my last? does it really make a difference???? XFX,BFG,EVGA,ASUS,Gigabyte or any of the others???ArcticCat500
No, it doesn't really matter. They're all using the same basic hardware from nVidia. The main differences across the brands will be warranty, clock speeds, and add ons like free games.
My personal favorite is eVGA because of a good warranty and the Step Up program. XFX and BFG are also good choices.

Yeah, id agree with that. Personally I deal with XFX, they have never steered me wrong.
8800GT
Go look at some benchmarks. While the GTX might get 32 frames in Crysis, the GT gets 29...and its 100+ dollars cheaper!
I am also happy with my GTS.
Depends on your budget. The difference between the GT and the GTS is pretty crap unless you run them next to each other. You might see a 4-5 fps difference. The only time that becomes noticable is between 15 and 20 fps.
If you can easily afford the extra money without sacrificing on the rest of your build then go for it. But don't sacrifice on something just to go for the GTS.
