Well...wouldn't you need 4xPCI-E 16x slots? I'd say you'd need a quad-core to take full potential of them. Actually, you'd probably need one that hasn't been released yet. :P

I don't think there are any motherboards that would support 4 8800gtx, but you would need the best core 2 Extreme processor to make the most of them

non-existent at the moment, i believe that the most pci-e slots for graphics cards at the moment is 3, in the 680i series. besides, you need nvidia to develop drivers for that kind of technology, and well....... lets leave it at that.

There would probably be latency issues running across 4 PCI-E slots. This may be solved in SLI 2 and PCI-E 2. What's more likely for the moment is a card such as the 8950GX2 (hypothetical) - and you would have two of them running in SLI - effectively giving you 4 GPUs.

yeah, agree with cyborg-21, we don't have true quad-sli right now, its just paired up gpus on a single pcb times two. sli 2 and pcie 2 will be interesting with their promise of 4+ slots of interchangeable video cards, and just to imagine how they could solve all the compatibility issues is mind-boggling, but i'd assume something on the course of all the cards down-clocking to the lowest common denominator. hey, it is an interesting and profitable (in the eyes of the gpu developers at least) time for gpu, and computers in general.

With dual 8800GTX's being bottlenecked by all processors, I'm would take at least Yorkfield or 2x Barcelona to keep 4 GTXs from being bottlenecked.

No he isn't.
A PSU that can put out 80amps on the +12v will be fine.
Putting out close to a kw on the +12v is no small feat, this ePower Xscale has just enough juice to do so but has some ripple problems, so I wouldn't recommend using it if you need 80amps.

So a quality 1200w that can handle an 80amp load on the +12v without any ripple problems could run 4 GTXs.
Though a 1.4-1.5kw PSU would be a  bit safer.

your motherboard would need to be quite big as well, considering those things take up quite a bit of room

Yeah. Those GTXs are monster cards - and your electrivity bill would increase significantly as well :D

Not to mention that when PCI-E 2 releases, it supposedly supports up to 8 GPUs !

Hmm,.... you like Opera? I'd heard about it but never tried it. Frankly, I was so impressed when I switched from IE to Firefox that I never considered anything else.

I like IE7, but Opera is a much faster browser that uses the temporary cache well to store commonly visited web pages.

AMD's 4x4 supports up to four pci-e video cards, I believe ASUS makes the motherboard. The problem though is that there are no drivers that support four seperate video cards, plus you would need to use a massive psu and also have a wall socket that can support the amperage.
