Your first PC and the games that first got you into PC Gaming??

So I recently cleared out my garage to discover my first PC (a windows 95 machine with a 133mhz Pentium CPU, 24mb RAM and a 1.5gb hard drive!). I fired up the old girl and was pleasantly surprised to see it still working. I then spent the rest of the day nostalgically enjoying the old school games that were installed which included Age of Empires, KKND, Ace Ventura, Interstate 76 and Grim Fandango. Needless to say, most of them haven't aged well but it was a blast reliving my childhood.

Do you remember your first PC? And what where the games that first drew you into the wonderful world of PC Gaming?

I dont remember what my first PC was since I got it from my dad back in 1999/2000. My first PC games though were Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3, got them at some PC swap meat.

Were likely Wolfenstein 3D and Dune 2 that got me into pc gaming, back then it was the family pc, a year later I got my own first PC. The games that got me REALLY into PC gaming were:

Syndicate

X-Com: Defense

the ultima series

the Might and magic series.

Oh lord did I spend time on those games O.o

Given the time Id say, I was around 10 when I started playing on the PC the way I would on a console, and 11 when I got my own pc, and REALLY got into pc gaming.

My first pc was a Pentium 100 mhz with the respectable amount of 16 mb ram. By that time i was already a long time gamer, but pc changed it all. I played games like Doom, UFO and c&c red alert. But my main genre is and have always been adventure games, so the games i hadnt already played on my Amiga, i got on pc. Having a harddrive was really a blessing. You guys who remembered Beneath a steel sky with its 15 floppy disks knows what i'm talking about :)

Heh, i'll really show my age here. My first computer was like an XT or an AT (long before 286, 386, 486, and pentiums). I remember my first game being Zork (its how I learned to type) and I also remember playing King's Quest right after that.

I used to play the old Exile games a long time ago and the Swat series... didn't really get into PC gaming until this gen though. Dragon Age Origins on the PS3 is what pushed me to PC gaming. Horrid performance and controller wasn't working so that was my moment.

Don't remeber what it was. I believe it had SIS CPU and also integrated graphics from them. It was end of 98 or start of 99. The first game I played was Rainbow Six. Shortly after I got into Age of Empires 2, FIFA RTWC 98, Need for Speed 3 and Rogue Squadron. Good times.

lol - my first was also an IBM XT ( 88086 I think it was). I can remember playing games like Frogger, Sokoban, Xenon 2 megablast, Tapper, Impossible Mission, Alley Cat. There was a tank commander game where each level randomly generated a hill between two tanks that you had to shoot over or through.

We had a lot of Sierra adventure games - King's Quest 3: To Heir is Human was the one I remember the most, while that, Space Quest: Sarien Encounter and a few others helped encourage me to learn to type.

We had a sort out earlier in the year and found boxes of old 5.25" disks that brought back memories. We did laugh finding a King's Quest game that came on 9 floppies - to think it was barely 6MB (720k disks) or similar to an MP3 today, yet took 9 disks and needed changing just about every time you moved off the side of the screen.

My first PC that was my own was a 386.

When I got Wing Commander: Privateer, Doom 2, and Simcity 2000, I stopped wanting a Sega Genesis instead of a PC.

I am currently still using my first PC. I built my first one in Spring 2011. The first game I played was Crysis

C&C, Red alert, Diablo, Baulders Gate. These games were around 1995-1997

Diablo was my first multiplayer experience on pc as well.

My first PC was a prebuilt HP. It had an Intel PIII Celeron at 400 Mhz, 64MB of RAM, an 8GB hard drive, and 1MB of onboard Intel graphics. I got that in 1998. I started upgrading it in 2002 as I had been introduced to Counter-Strike. I upgraded that PC to 320MB of RAM, and a GeForce 4 MX440 graphics card before finaly building my own computer in 2003. Counter-Strike was the biggest influence on my turning to PC gaming. After that it was just a slow shift from playing some console games to using my PC to be my only source for playing games. Other games I played back then was Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit, and Delta Force 2.

My first PC was a Tandy 1000SX similar to this with 2 x 360k floppy drives and an ISA-slot 10mb hard drive ($500 in 1986 for the hard drive alone).

My first DIY PC with AMD 386DX-40 (photo taken in 1993) assembled in 1992. The monitor is a Packard Hell 14" VGA.

The very first PC games I can recall playing on a PC were:

Sublogic's Jet!

and Sierra's Gold Rush. Gold Rush supported Tandy 16-color graphics. So, Gold Rush on the Tandy looked like the one below. Jet! only did CGA. So, it looked like the above on the Tandy.

The first PC I ever played games on was our family one which we bought when I was a kid (15-20 years ago). I remember playing games like the first Need for Speed, which totally blew my mind. I wish I could remember the specs of it but I was too young to notice. But it did start my love of PC gaming.

The first PC that I personally owned was back in high school (I bought it in 2004 I think). Again, I can't remember the exact specs but it had a Radeon 9600XT graphics card and an AMD 64 bit processor. It was awesome! And the first game I bought for it was Half-Life 2... and I was just amazed. HL2 is still my favourite game of all time by quite a margin.

First game i ever played was, "Commander Stryker." My dad also made me play Math Blaster in the hopes that i would stop sucking at math. I still sucked at math, but i started to love video games even more. After that i progressesd to Commander Keen in Keen Dreams. The rest is history.

Stalker is what got me into pc gaming

A little Starcraft and battlenet here and there. Then...City of Heroes...blew my frickin' mind.

I religiously played that game every month for close to 4 years. It was great. It was the only game I played so I wasn't concerned with $15 every month. Hell, it was saving me from drinking $7 Heinekens and hanging with metrosexual types, a veritable financial windfall.

Late in 2008 I was still in Cali and the wildfires were finally affecting my area. It was a tad smokey and even my landlord, who was always outside on the main street sipping a happy cappuccino in his golden years, was heading to a dark movie theater to get a break from the smoke. I know this because Best Buy and the movies had the same parking lot.

I couldn't breathe either so I picked up Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for $19 and Fallout 3. I haven't looked back. At one point I was dating this beautiful girl who was much younger than I. Neither of us had a car at the time so I was on the bus with her seeing her back to her place. Here I was hanging out with and getting to know this young beautiful girl who any man would be lucky to be with and I just remember thinking about "Buffout, Psycho, Mentats" and how they would affect my combat stats in Fallout 3. I'm not saying that's cool. I'm just saying it is what it is.

I didn't own a pc until later, I was a console guy, so I always played it at friend's places. First pcgames I played there were cheap floppydisk dosgames. My local general store had a huge selection of those. It only had a sticker on the front with some artwork, no box, screenshots, manual or anything. I'd go there with friends and buy some random games that looked cool based solely on the artwork and title lol

Then later came Tomb Raider, GTA and Commandos. And I finally got my first P1 in '98 or something, and the first pc with games around '00, a PII, around 120 mhz I think, and I could just about play Red Alert 2 on it and it blew my mind.

First real gaming pc after that was a PIII 550 mhz and I could just about play Battlefield 1942 and CoD 1 and 2 on it and that blew my mind again.

First PC my family owned was some 486 desktop. First game I was hooked on was Ultrabots for DOS, and later Doom.

It was definitely something on my father's computer from the early 1990s, back in the age of desktop tower cases that make today's full-towers look small time while packing turbo buttons (remember those?), and DOS and Windows 3.1 were the OSes of the day (unless you were running OS/2 or some flavor of UNIX). All I really knew about the specs were that it had to have a VGA card and a Sound Blaster of some sort, given that it ran games like the typical Apogee and Epic shareware releases, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, etc. with good graphics and sound. That first game could have been a 3D take on Tetris or one of the old Microprose flight sims for all I can remember...
