Link to the original article.

Here's the official tweet

Robin Williams will be memorialized in the popular roleplaying game World Of Warcraft, after an online petition at Change.org garnered more than 10,000 signatures. The petition asked World Of Warcraft creator Activision-Blizzard to “create an NPC within World Of Warcraft to memorialize the late Robin Williams, an avid World Of Warcraft player, and one of the funniest men alive.” (An NPC, for those not familiar with gaming acronyms, is a non-player character.)

The official World Of Warcraft Twitter account seemed to confirm the tribute yesterday with the following tweet:

Details about how and when a Williams NPC will be incorporated into the game are still unknown, but the petition’s description said that many hoped to see the character to perform some of Williams’ best jokes at the World’s End Tavern, “so that he may continue making us smile long after his passing.” The World’s End Tavern is currently home to a standup comic named Perry Gatner, who tells some truly terrible jokes. Williams would certainly have no problem following him.

The petition describes how Williams often joked that he was addicted to World Of Warcraftand enjoyed playing Warcraft III. An avid gamer, in a Reddit AMAlast year, Williams wrote that he was waiting for the next Call Of Duty to come out and that The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time was the last game he played all the way through. He also starred in several Nintendo Zelda commercialswith his daughter, whom he named after the game.

Thoughts?

I hope you two are just being sarcastic.

Not everything a company does is just for attention. This was made possible by a huge petition from the gamers asking Blizzard to do it, and Robin Williams was an avid PC Gamer and WoW player so it's fitting as a tribute to him.

I didnt know he played WoW or was an avid gamer.. Strange though that after WoW, WC3 and CoD mentions that OOT was the last game he completed..

About to hit post and it occurred to me, maybe its was OOT 3ds.

Exploitation of a famous man's death. Kind of like when they put footage of Bruce Lee's funeral in Game of Death.

I watched "Weapons of Self-Destruction" in memory of him. Which is his most recent Stand Up Comedy special.

Gonna watch RW live on Broadway this weekend as well.

His movies were good, but I feel a closer kinship to his stand-up.

That's just ***.

People are not going to resub for this....and Blizzard is smart enough to know this. The man played WoW.....why must there always be some kind of hidden agenda by the evil empire known as Blizzard?

Your cynicism is much appreciated here.

Nothing compared to the newest iteration of UFC. I can't remember the last time I've seen a person's death exploited to sell so many copies of a game...and absolutely no one even seemed to notice. Bruce Lee has zero reason to be attached to any UFC project, let alone be the sole marketing drive behind it. He was a legend that died though...free money for anyone who can call that back!

I'm actually kind of disgusted by that.

@devnon06: being the last game he finished doesn't mean he didn't play games. I find myself playing lots of games and rarely finishing them. I think OoT is one of like 5 games I have played all the way through in the past 15 years..

People here seem to confuse exploitation with tribute.

Now, if Blizzard put Robin in a new dungeon and charged money for the DLC, then it would be exploitation.

If he is just going to be included in the game as another quest giver, like Blizzard said, it's a tribute to one of the most famous people that played WoW.

posting this doesn't mean anything. it's not exploitation if they're not charging for anything.

Every time developers/publishers do ANYTHING that reminds people that they're human beings they think theirs an alternative motive.

Well yea... it does. You make a point, it was factually wrong.

and this ad from years ago doesn't prove the point i was making it.. does prove you don't read well.

My friend the argument is done and long gone. At this point it's simply a case of being un-humble as humanly possible and arguing for the sake of it. Waste of time.
