I am looking to get a PC to play the Sims 4 and was wondering if you guys could tell me if either of these PC's will run the Sims 4 smoothly.

Here are the system requirements for the sims 4:

Recommended Specs

REQUIRED: Internet connection required for product activation.

OS: 64 Bit Windows 7,8, or 8.1

PROCESSOR: Intel core i5 or faster

AMD Athlon X4

MEMORY: 4GB RAM

HARD DRIVE: At least 9 GB of free space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games

DVD-ROM: DVD ROM drive required for installation only

VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GTX 650 or better

SOUND CARD: DirectX 9.0c Compatible

DIRECTX: DirectX 9.0c compatible

INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse

And here are the two computers I am looking at:

1. Toshiba -

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/toshiba-satellite-15-6-laptop-intel-celeron-4gb-memory-500gb-hard-drive-jet-black/7351008.p?id=1219265947912&skuId=7351008&st=pcmcat138500050001_categoryid$abcat0502000&cp=1&lp=1

2. Asus -

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-15-6-laptop-intel-celeron-4gb-memory-500gb-hard-drive-black/7288011.p?id=1219262036899&skuId=7288011&st=pcmcat138500050001_categoryid$abcat0502000&cp=1&lp=2

If you have any other computer recommendations please feel free to post them. But I must say my spending limit is $250 as I will really only use it for the Sims and possibly other lower grade games.

Thanks for your help :)

@cswan19: Absolutely not to both, not even close. $250 is not nearly enough money. Those won't play 99% of games, even lower grade games. You're going to need at least $800 to $1,000 for a decent laptop that will play games.

APU, saves the cost of physical GPU, which in this budget limit is critical, while still performs better than none gaming laptops HD graphics.

I would recommend an SSD drive for the Sims 4, the game loads all the time it would be too frustrating to play without one

You go ahead and fit that SSD in a 250$ budget limit =)

I actually did manage to do so, but the only way is to reduce the CPU to A6 instead of A10 and remove the HDD entirely and use SSD as the only storage device.

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING WITH A CELERON CPU!!!

Seriously, if your gaming do not go with a celeron. I would even have a hard time recommending a i3 CPU but would before that. the celeron is their lowest end CPU. For 250 I would have to say buy a PS3 or 360. 250 bucks will not get you anything good. I would even say if your over 18 apply for a Best Buy Credit card, Amazon Credit Card, New Egg credit card, Dell store card or any other who offer it if you could make monthly payments to pay it off in time. Also, unless your really need a laptop go desktop. Personally I have a desktop and a alienware m17x r3 laptop. I got the laptop when I was in college and needed a beefy portable computer I could take class to class for 3D Design, it benefited my need and it has been a fantastic laptop, but I would recommend a desktop to the everyday user unless like me you also need a powerful portable computer. But keep in mind all gaming laptops are gonna cost more than 1k for a good one. I had to put my m17x r3 on 12 month interest free to afford it, but in the end was worth it.

I hate it when people by the laptops/desktops with celeron cpu's and then complain it's slow. They think just because it's new it should run fast even though they cheaped out big time. If your gaming budget cant go past 250, again I just urge you to get a PS3 and forget the Sims 4. A PS3 will give you alot more games and way better performance.

Thanks for you feedback everyone. I appreciate the input. So neither one of these will work at all, even if the computer is for the sole purpose of playing sims 4? I have a macbook for school which is why I don't want to spend much on the computer since 1) I already have a nice computer for everyday use and 2) I'm basically JUST buying a PC for the Sims 4.

What about AMD e-series. I don't know much about computers so not alot of the "specs" make any sense to me. Hence the fact that I'm posting for help. lol

Also, What about any of these from groupon?

1. This one has i5 although it is refurbished.

http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-hp-14-probook-6450b-laptop-with-intel-core-i5-24ghz-processor

2. http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-hp-pavilion-156-laptop-with-1ghz-processor-and-4gb-ram

3. http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-hp-pavilion-15-point-6-inch-notebook-with-1ghz-processor-and-4gb-ram

4. http://www.groupon.com/deals/gg-hp-156-notebook-with-13ghz-processor-4gb-ram-320gb-and-windows-8

Thanks again for all your help guys! :)

Also what about the Intel Centrino processor? Could that run the Sims 4? We have an old PC here - the Gateway SA1 - that currently does not turn on. We are thinking it is the battery or power chord. We have already purchased a power chord for it but are waiting for its arrival in the mail. If the power chord is why it will not turn on, could this computer (with the Intel Centrino) run the game? Thanks.

Dual boot windows and OSX on your macbook. I have no idea why you'd want to buy another laptop just for the sims. You're saying the sims is worth that much to you?

You will simply not find a cheap (sub $300) laptop that will play Sims 4 in any manner which will render it enjoyable. I say dual boot on the Macbook or build an APU gaming PC on the cheap as suggested above.

You really have to break the $700 to $800 range before you start seeing laptops with dedicated video cards that are alright.. Though this is a huge improvement when 8 years ago you basically had to spend $1000 to $1200+ easily just to get a laptop with a dedicated video card to it that wasn't garbage..

I didn't know that there was such a thing as duel booting. I'm now looking into it as there is something called bootcamp from apple. I was more looking at buying a new laptop and using it for sims as well as other games so it was like buying a game console type of thing. Anyway, I don't think I will be buying a laptop now that I know about this option. I have the basic macbook pro. You think that with bootcamp it will be able to handle the game okay?

No. Unless it's some kind of giveaway, you are not going to find a laptop for $250 to play The Sims 4. You could maybe buy a decent on on Ebay to play The Sims 2 for that price.

Macbooks do have decent specs. If it's a modern macbook and you dual boot windows on it, it realistically shouldn't have difficulties playing the sims. It's not a terribly demanding game. The only cost you'll have is for windows which shouldn't cost you all that much. I've never bought anything from G2A.com before but they've got windows 8.1 for $23. Someone here may know if that site is reputable.

Thanks! Luckily as a college student I get windows 8 free through my school so thats fortunate. So really the only cost is the game itself! I'm glad I posted on this site otherwise I would have never heard about dual booting. And yes my macbook is modern, I got it in 2012 so it is still very new. Thanks again for all your help guys, I appreciate it.

no problem. Dual boot is a fantastic thing if you already have a macbook and can get windows for a reasonable price (can't beat free).
