I need help! When I put COD-4 into my dvd disc drive it makes wierd noises for a couple seconds, then nothing happens! I don't get the "install menue". My dvd drive seems to be working ok and will load anything else I put into it. I thought my first copy of COD-4 may be scratched so I traded it for a new one...same thing. Nothing is happening and is pissing me off.

What in the world could this be?

Also......when I click on my computer icon, the DVD drive must not recognize a game is in. It tells me to insert disc? WTF is going on here?

lol i don't really know what to say...

sometimes weird thing happen to cd or dvd drives that are exactly like what you described, i think its probably time for a new dvd drive or if you are really tight on cash then re-install windows as a last resort because it probably wont work.

also check if you have any spy-were, viruses, Trojans ect

I'd take it back and get another copy. You might have a bad disc. Or, just buy it on steam. No discs :)

Do you have any virtual drives? Only thing I can think of is maybe the copy protection doesn't like the virtual drives.. if CoD even has C/P?

Isn't CoD4 on a dual-layer disc? Maybe your DVD drive doesn't read dual-layer discs.

It does but he should still be able to read the disc and install the game though.

its the copy protection, aka it screws over some configurations. Mine did the same. A good trick I did was to restart with the disc in the drive. You should get it to read eventually.

Close any other programs not necessary, take the disc out and keep trying, its the copy protection crap.

i had a very very similar problem with crysis. except i installed the game fine and was playing it for days. then my pc stopped recognizing it. it wasnt the drive because it read other discs. it would say no disc in when i clicked the desktop icon so i eventually just downloaded a no cd hack which is so convenient i did it for all my games and will for future games
