Who is excited for Age of Mythology EX ?

Age of Mythology Extended Edition will be out tomorrow by this time.

Sure, there is no need to wait to play the content as the game was released a long time ago. Still, the improvements are looking really nice.

Here are some screens I grabbed from the workshop page (yes, there is already workshop content so that is promising) that look really nice:

Extended Edition Feature list:

  1. Improved Visuals
    • Time of Day
    • Improved water
    • Shadows
    • Bump / Specular maps
    • Global Lighting
    • Antialiasing & Ambient Occlusion
  2. Full Steamworks Integration
    • Workshop mod manager
    • Multiplayer
    • Achievements
    • Trading Cards
    • Leagues / Badges / Events
    • Cloud saves
  3. Extended Features
    • Twitch Integration
    • Treaty Mode
    • Enhanced Observer mode

Game can be bought from Steam right now for 20% off or you can buy it even cheaper at Greenmangaming if you apply their 20% off voucher at checkout (that's where I got it from)

And yes, this isn't a new game or anything. But with the serious lack of RTS these days I gotta say I'm pretty damn excited to play this game again with better graphics. Also, for the people that missed out all this ago, this is the perfect time to play a classic.

How about you ?

This and the old age of empires took many days from my childhood.

I will probably get this later on. The AoE games rocks!

Yeah, I already put hundreds of hours into the AOE games and AOM, and am looking foward to playing this for many more hours as well.

I don't think it was the first RTS I ever played but when I played AOE 1 I really started to like the genre. Still today I find that historical RTS are my favourite games. It's a shame there are so few of them coming out these days. Have been playing a lot of COH 2 the past year to get my fix.

I also like RTS with a fantasy setting like Warcraft.

Same here. I bought my copy at greenmangaming. I don't think they'll do a preload for this game, so I can't wait until tomorrow to get my key and start downloading and playing :)

AOE2 on Steam is still having issues. Is no one worried that Mythology will just be more of the same?

AoM was my favourite RTS back in the day, played many hours... but I won't be getting this version.

Looks like there will be preload after all.

What issues are you having ?

I never bought it even though it's my favorite RTS due to all the issues reported in the forums. Mostly optimization issues. This has been a few months ago as I tempted to pick it up for $5 during one of the last Steam sales, but turned it down since the forums were flooded with complaints.

Never played this. So yea, cheap, updated. Sounds good.

As much as I played the hell out of Age of Empies 2, Age of Mythology was probably my favourite in the series. I loved the theme, the-wild-but-still-structured design of the units, the completely different factions, and the way god power decisions interacted with the design of your civilisation.

I don't know if I'll pick this up again, since I *really* don't play RTS games...but maybe on sale

Wonder if this is Microsoft testing the water for a potential AOE sequel.

Can't say I have encountered many problems. Workshop is a bit cluncky at times (as you have to verify cache if you uninstall something)

According to steam stats there are thousands of gamers daily. So there must be a lot of people that can play the game fine. Compared to what a couple dozen people who complain on forums ?

I'm not saying these people don't have problems or they should be ignored. But the people on forums will always be a vocal minority. 5 bucks is a nice price for this classic and Age II HD is definitely the best version. I guarantee it.

I liked every age of empires games. But I love the setting of AOE 1, AOM and AOE Online most of all. Medieval and New world setting are nice, but the ancient settings are my favourite. I especially like the setting in AOE 1 where you start of as what are essentially caveman and you work your way to becoming an empire. That's something that I always saw in these games: you start from nothing and you become this huge empire destroying others that stand in your way. It's pretty much human history played out in a 30 minute match XD

So you used to play RTS games but don't anymore ?

There was a long time disinterest from MS in this series.

Someone at MS suggested they should re-release Age II on steam, but MS held off for a long time. They finally did it and it was a huge succes. People suggested they should do AOM next.

And MS listened. MS listened ! To PC gamers ?! There is certainly something changing in MS. Because not too long ago they forced Ensemble to work on a console RTS and closed or redirected many PC studios to Xbox development. They were completely moving away from PC gaming.

Now they can focus on Xbox all they want, I just want more RTS from them as they hold the AOE and AOM IP.

And I certainly don't want that mobile game, looks nothing like AOE so I don't know why it is carrying the AOE name.

AoE2 really improved on AoE but since then......not so much

AoE was one of my favourite strategy games as a kid, a lot of fun.

When I started up the game it instantly ran at my native res.

Do you have multiple screens hooked up ? And what is your native res ?

I disagree. AOM and AOE 3 also added a lot of improvements. And more variation when it comes to civs.

Doesn't matter my friend, too bust with FF Online atm. It's probably something to do with the HDTV. It always doing weird shit with the resolution and screen space. Thank crikey for nvidia screen scaling.

Nice.

Yeah, it takes a bit of getting used to. I have played age of empires a lot, but going back to this takes some time. I also like way all civs are different from eachother.
