So you never noticed the difference between them? Well anyway at this point in time you should get an lcd, especially for the sizes your looking to buy.
CRT stands for "cathode ray tube", while LCD stands for "liquid crystal display". LCDs are flat-panel, and CRTs are the big heavy bulky boxes that look like an older TV. Perhaps a year or two ago, it would have been safe to say that CRTs were better for gaming because of something called "ghosting" on LCD monitors - they did not refresh their picture fast enough for the high framerates of games. However, major leaps have been made in LCD performance recently, and that no longer really holds true. You should not notice any difference between the refresh rates of a CRT or LCD monitor anymore. On top of that, LCD pictures are now on par with or better than the pictures put out by nicer CRT monitors. An LCD monitor is the way to go, especially in the size range you are looking for.

No problem, glad to be of assistance ;). Oh, and if you are looking at some of the stats and can't figure them out... You want a low number (8 or less) where it says response time (i.e. - 16ms, 12ms, 8ms, etc) You want a higher contrast ratio. Pay attention to the default resolution. The monitor will not be able to display resolutions higher than the default, and make sure your graphics card can handle resolutions high enough to make the monitor worth while if you're looking at 24+ inch monitors.
The bigger the screen the bigger the system requirements are. I would recommend getting a 22 inch widescreen monitor its almost the biggest you want to go and it also depends on how far you are. The native res on the 22 inch widescreens are usually 1680*1050 why the 24s are 1900*1080 but if you have the money go with what you can get. I suggest getting a widescreen monitor over a regular. That way you can use it for Xbox 360, or PS3 (make sure the screen is HDCP comp) but other then that yous should be good.
I think that guy just didn't read the rest of the thread. You should be ok. You only need HDCP compliance to play HD-DVD or Bluray movies through your computer...I'm not sure how all of it works...you'd have to google some of it.
