To me consoles where becoming PCs anyway seeing the direction the PS4 and Xbox One is heading. The pros out weights the con by a good margin even on a mid tier machine...

  • better performance
  • better visuals
  • customization
  • free online
  • better prices on games
  • better game selection
  • backward compatibility (kinda fun to upgrade and play games you couldn't in 2005 on max now)
  • mods
  • multitasking

The only few negatives about PC gaming in entry price ($650+ minimum imo), some potential compatibility issues and lower profile exclusives.

I don't see a lot of reason to game on consoles anymore except for occasional exclusives which is why I'll keep my PS4, Wii U and Xbox One hooked up. Pretty sure consoles will be a thing in the past and everything including Uncharted and Forza will be on Steam eventually as PC is easier than ever to built and it'll continue to be simplified for even the least tech junky of gamers.

Why did you decide to go PC?

I never was a console boy. For me, gaming had always been on PC. So, you can say, everything about PC made me choose PC.

Oh and, hardware porn is the best.

My first system was a SNES and after seeing how the stuff worked, that I would have to buy new system every few years and wouldn't be able to play my old games I said f*ck it, and stayed with my SNES until 98. That's when we got our first PC and got Rainbow Six, FIFA RTWC 98 and NFS3: Hot Pursuit and never looked back.

+1.

I had an original Gameboy, then SNES and then in 1997 I bought a Pentium MMX 200Mhz, 32MB RAM, S3 Virge 2MB (Diamond Stealth 3D 2000), etc etc. In 1998 I added the revolutionary Voodoo2 12MB. I never looked back...

But between SNES and PC one game made me go to PC. I played a demo of Command and Conquer in a friend's PC... I was amazed so much that from the first RTS I ever played that decided to buy a $1500+ PC...

3 games that changed the world of gaming were my first games. Diablo, Tomb Raider and Red Alert... I remembered that I couldn't convice the shop keeper to give me Warcraft 2 too xD....

Started out on super Nintendo, then went through all iterations of playstations but 4. I've all ways gamed on consoles but even then I'd play mmo's or rts games on pc even if they were not very good machines(horrible).

Fast forward to today and I now have a beefy pc and no consoles. Many reasons lead to this decision, money being the largest factor. In the long run paying for online just didn't seem financially worth it. Nothing about these new consoles seemed worth it.

$400 for a system that forces me to pay for half its services, all while holding a crazy almost never changing price tag on games just seems restricting and expensive. I did the math and even with my expensive computer I still came out ahead in the savings in the long run and with more games I can play each year.

Its nice to have freedom aswell. Love being able to mod tinker or test games to see if they work. I also like the competing markets. Things like that make for me pc gaming the best choice. As pc let's me play the most amount games for my buck.

One more thing to add, I like gorgeous games. Pc is where that shines. So those are my reasons.

I would like to also mention that I didn't even know PC with HDMI was a thing until a couple of weeks ago. It's nice dual monitoring gaming on one side and a walk through guide on another. Damn .

The large size of a PC could be another negative though that is nitpicking. You can't have a beefy PC if the case is small. Stronger than the Xbox One and PS4? Yes but not with a higher end PC.

Well, DayZ mod was the game that started it. That's what made me start to upgrade my Gateway PC some. Then I realized I was able to start taking advantage of Steam sales and didn't have to pay for online anymore (Xbox 360). I only have my PS3 now and that is mostly used for movies, Netflix and Hulu. I do miss being able to play some of the exclusives, but I rather put the money I do have towards upgrading the PC setup at this point.

I didn't really "go" PC.

When I was really young my family had Nintendo and Sega and a family PC. I liked playing games, so I played games on all three.

I owned all the consoles up until the end of the PS2 era. Last gen it simply became too expensive to console game when PC gaming was getting so much cheaper alongside it. On top of that most consoles have lost the benefits that used to be console staples. The price being one, ease of use, the variety of games (lots of Japanese support), and not being tied into expensive online subscriptions and DLC.

I've grown apart from consoles. I didn't switch all of a sudden one day. Now, I'm so accustomed to the performance of the PC for certain genres (like FPS games where mouse/keyboard is the be all, end all) that I have a hard time really considering a console seriously anymore.

They'll need to either become really cheap, or have a lot of game EXPERIENCES that I can't get on PC. I couldn't care less when a console gets an exclusive shooter because PC is loaded with tons of good ones.

Games like Bayonetta 2 (Wii U), D4 (Xboner), and the like, are what interest me on consoles.

Unreal and some of the adventure games like Blade Runner. Plus the fact that I could financially. Although I always had a console next to it as well.

Game still looks and plays great today. Netcode is surprisingly good for such an old game.

I lost interest in consoles when games went 3D back in the mid 90s. I could see that keyboard and mouse were better than a controller for most 3D games, and that upgradeable hardware, especially video cards, was a must if you didn't want your games to look like crap. The last console I was really into was the SNES.

I've tried to get back into consoles a few times, but have come to the conclusion that consoles and by extension many console games are just too casual, dudebro, kiddy, and/or girly for my tastes. I also just can't look past the crappy controls and eyesore graphics.

PC's always been my main thing to game on. But i've had a lot of consoles throughout the years, atari, nes, snes, sega, psx, ps2, ps3, xbox, xbox360. Basically only reason i had them was mostly exclusive games i couldn't play on pc usually. And of course, PC has superior everything over a console. However... much of the early days in gaming there were so few games you had to have a console.

Current gen ps4 and x1 are a joke piece of hardware, i can't see myself getting one of these unless a game exclusive comes out that is world changing and amazing, and it won't happen cause their idea of great games still are fps or assassin creed type games.

Its too bad they didn't put more into the hardware... i remember almost every console i bought at the time of release was better then my PC or at least equal... this gen of consoles that were released are weaker then 3-4 year old PCs. Not exactly sure why they cheaped out so badly on their cpus in them either... i got a 2600k cpu way back in early 2011, and its lightyears faster then anything in the consoles and still matched up with current cpus, why not slap one of those in there, mass produce those and use them in the consoles instead of whatever garbage is in them now. Not sure what cpu exacty is in them but it must be a cheap 30 dollar one cause even 100 dollar pc cpus perform faster.

You guys are right about consoles. Going back from PC to my PS4 for a multiplat it's actually disgusting how bad it looks and perform. Can't believe they are trying to make 1080p a selling point lol. The Wii U is probably the only console worth owning if you own a decent rig and it's a shame that it'll end up in third place.

I knew I had to go PC when I first saw Space Quest being played on a friend's Tandy. All these years later, it's still my preferred platform.

i was always drawn to the PC. the BBC micro and elite started it all for me.

but in my youth my access to a PC was very limited. the BBC micro was not mine and the owner was, understandably, very protective of it. then the family got a mac (yea...sorry...in my defence i didnt have a say in the matter :P). but most of my gaming at the time was done on the nes, snes, PS1 and gameboy. these were great...but they werent PCs.

it wasnt really until i was 14-15 that i got regular access to a PC.

so it was a combination of i could affoard one, games like age of empires and freespace and fond memories of the BBC Micro.

I still play on consoles and handhelds of course (wiiu and vita are guilty pleasures of mine) but the PC is and always will be my main platform.

I gamed a lot on consoles growing up:

Atari 2600, NES, Virtual Boy, TurboGrafx 16, Game Boy, SNES, Genesis (along with the 32x adapter), Game Boy Advance, PS1, PS2, PS3

I still have my PS2 and the 12 games or so I bought for it and I still use my PS3, but only for streaming Netflix or Blu-Ray - I sold most of the games for it (the 12 I had, only have 4 left that I might play at some point). Everything else was either stolen by my older brother in his high school drug days and sold or eventually stopped working (like the Virtual Boy. It ran fine about a year ago - I'd take it out every 12-16 months and play it for an hour or two. However this time I took it out, one side wasn't showing images very well or at all or the system would lock up. Someone bought it off me for $25 in hopes to get it fixed).

I didn't buy the PS1, but that was the last console I really played a lot of games on. The PS1 was my younger brothers, but we both bought games for it. This was around the time that I started getting into PC gaming a lot. Tie Fighter, Relentless: Twinsen's Adventure, WarCraft (I and II), and along with a whole bunch of text (and a few graphical) based games that were on the old 5.25" floppy disks. I ended up getting the old family computer in my room when the old folks purchased a new, high end Pentium II 333MHz back in the day. I played the crap out of the floppy disk games, Tie Fighter and such....never really looked back after that. I especially enjoyed Doom and I used to play the game with my Gravis Game Pad I still own today.

When I went to college the old folks bought me my first computer - AMD K6-II in it - and it was fast compared to the Pentium II my roommate had in his. We played the crap out of Counter Strike in 2000. I added in an AGP FX 5200 a few years later and went from there for tinkering with the insides. I find computers much more enjoyable over consoles and I'm trying to keep my kids engaged with the computer and how they work.

What made me primarily a PC gamer?... Last generation of consoles before that I always had a PC and gaming consoles.

Half way through the 360/PS3 era I realized I play all my multiplats on PC and that I only play exclusives on consoles and then it occurred to me just how irrelevant consoles were without a exclusive you like... That's when I decided to get a HD 4890 and never looked back.

Now I am thinking think if a GTX 980 is worth it over a 970... I'm about to drop £450 on a GPU and I'm not even caring that the PS4/X1 exist.

90% of the games I play now are multiplats and with the fact that I can afford the latest hardware consoles are really dead to me.

The extra cash for a 980 over a 970 worth the 10 to 15% performance increase the 980 has over the 970?

Once you can answer this question for yourself, you'll then find out what GPU is wroth buying for your computer.

Well I know that the 980 once overclocked is a beast but I'm not sure its worth the extra £150... Especially when in certain games a overclocked 970 is right up against the stock 980.

I think I'm just going to order a 970.

That said neither look compelling to me since I had a 780 Ti over clocked and that makes the 970 look like a slight downgrade but with 1GB extra VRAM and the 980 look like a small upgrade with 1GB VRAM... But that thing broke. I dropped it while cleaning my PC :(.

I'm waiting to see what the 985/980Ti brings to the table... BUT I don't think I can wait that long and I will end up with a 970/980 by the end of the month.

Nver "went to pc" since I have had a console and access to a pc since I was 6. So I always jumped back and forth all the time. As time went on however PC came to be the preferred platform, and over the last 2 gens of Console I have begun to doubt if I should ever get another console, outside the obligatory Nintendo system that is.

Well My PS4 might still have time to change m mind, but so far, all it has are weaker versions of the games I play on PC; usually with a worse UI, and some halfbaked exclusives that outride of the decent Graphics, would never be considered past "mid tier" game that has potential in a sequal but trainwreck as is.

I've never been one to stick to one thing. As a gamer I like to try everything. So I get all the consoles/handhelds if I can.

But as for pc, I'd have to say oblivion and skyrim. I never was much of a pc gamer, simply because I couldn't afford it. I got a laptop (as a gift) and wanted to see what it was like gaming on it, my laptop was crappy of course.

but I gamed on it anyways. I eventually came across some amazing pictures that people posted of the same game and wanted my game to look the same. Things changed after that. :P I started saving and trying to get as much work as I could so I could get a pc. I don't have money problems now, so things are easier. But thats my story. :P

For a long time I played consoles because of the easy of use or how cheap they were. I started gaming on the Sega Genesis, and went through a Playstation craze. The first 3 PC games that I was really into were Dark Forces II, Rainbow Six, and Asheron's Call. But the Japanese support on consoles pretty much kept a controller in my hand. However having an Xbox in the home when you couldn't afford a gaming PC allowed me to have access to some very PC-centric games. I built my first PC late 2006 to play World of Warcraft and Half-Life 2 as well. Even after that experience I still had a Wii, PS3, and a Xbox 360 that took up more of my time.

A lot had change in my life and at one point I did not game at all! I sold pretty much everything I had accept for a few games that were close to me. But I always kept up with the gaming industry! About a year and a half ago after realizing how much I missed gaming, I came back. It was really hard for me to embrace digital downloads, but after going through my first Steam Sale I was completely hooked. Plus I realized that PC gaming put me even closer to what I enjoyed.

I was always a console gamer, ever since the sega master system, but once I seen some of the pc exclusives, that weren't going to be available for my xbox 360, or ps3, I decided to build one. I had Previously built my kids some mid-range, decent gaming computers, And I Seen all the deals Steam was offering on a constant basis, and all the enjoyment they were getting out of em, and I figured why not. I still game primarily on consoles, but I still enjoy having a gaming capable pc.

I guess, technically, I really wanted a Sega Genesis before I got Wing Commander Privateer. 1993 - Privateer, Simcity 2000, Master of Orion, Doom - was quite a year for PC.

People that say PC is better in every way than PS4 are just jealous that consoles are still king. PC games are not video games. You're sitting in front of a computer screen. It's just dumb. PS4 is where it's at. You see commercials all the time for it. I'm not the biggest PS4 fan, but I'm saying consoles in general is how you have fun. Nothing fun about building a PC. If it's fun for you to build, then that's your hobby, but it has nothing to do with having fun with actually playing. PC people just love to build things and admire the tech, but they don't actually care one iota about how fun the games are. I love Genesis now. Does it have better graphics than PS3? No, but it's about the games. PC has nothing to offer when it comes to just having simple fun. It's all about just trying to be better and more complex than true gamers. They'll never win cuz PC isn't a video game console. Only a video game is a video game. PC's are for tech geeks. You like to fiddle around with your stuff, great. We just wanna play, sorry.

I don't think you've ever been a PC gamer, right?

When i game on my PS4, I turn on the TV, turn on the console, insert game, sit down and play !!

When i game on PC, i sit down, turn on my monitor, turn on the PC, load the game and play !!

So can you tell me what is your argument considering consoles and PCs both play games, the majority of which are multiplats (i.e. same exact games) ???

Why did you decide to go PC?

i started to play games on pc anyway but in 2010-12 my pc was really shit and i only had a ps3 to play. But i built one in 2012 and get back into pc. What i like about pc is that compared to consoles, its very open platform. And local prices for console games here are just ridiculous. the fact most console games doesnt allow button-mapping let alone keyboard mouse, is a important reason also.

Also Uncharted wont make on windows, sony owns ND, maybe an emulator will be out in the future idk.

PC parts are much more accessible here than Consoles. With that said, I also grew up using and playing PC.

I've been playing on a PC since . . . long before I was paid to play one. I didn't do it to be cool. I didn't do it to make a statement. I just liked it.

I have a gaming PC, but I also have a Wii U, a 3DS and I will get a Vita later down the line.

The PC has been my main gaming platform for ages, during early childhood I was a sucker for adventure games, during teens and late childhood I was a sucker for RTS, after that I got into MMORPGs, and now there is nothing I enjoy more than classic RPGs and Strategy games, both Real Time and Turn Based.

I wont stay exclusive to one platform ever, but PC will always be my main system.
