Hello all, I'm looking to give myself a xmas prezzie and update improve my PC for gaming a bit, ever since i brought Far Cry 3 its a bit laggy and the frame rate is a bit rubbish in game. This is what i got so far: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 4 GB RAM 2 x Nvidia Geforce GTS 450 (sli) another thing i would like to point out is my windows key system rating thing: Processor: 7.5 RAM: 7.5 Graphics: 7.4 Gaming Graphics 7.4 Primary hard disk: 5.9 Judging by this my hard drive is the problem, but i don't know much about computers. Any help would be great! Oh yeah, and i'm not looking to spend the world! Cheers all!
If you're looking for better game performance, ditch the SLI 450's and go for an AMD 7970, or if you want to stick with Nvidia and can deal with a slightly worse value go with the GTX 670. If you want faster boot times and snappier load times then replace your mechanical HDD with a SSD.

That way, when you start having performance issues again down the road, you'll have the option of adding a second card. That would be much cheaper than having to replace 2 cards with entirely new ones...

Havinh my 2 450's together does it double the graphics power i have? for instance: 1 x 450= 100% 2 x 450= 200% 1 x GTX 660ti = 300% sorry about the random maths, just trying to understand everything a bit more. Unfortunently SLI does not mean 200% performance compared to 1 card. It sometimes means 160%, it sometimes means 120% believe it or not it sometimes means only 80%. Depends on the game and how good the profile is. This is why most people would suggest 1 good card compared to multiple lower cards. SLI as a rule of thumb should only be considered in 2 circumstances:
1) The best card on the market is not good enough for you, so a single 680 or 7970 will just not cut it for you
2) A friend offers you the same card you already have pretty cheap or you see it in clearance for 30% of the original price

+1 get a 7970 and dont look back, if you wanna squeeze every drop of performance buy a $20 212+ coolermaster cooler and OC your CPU.
go for 7970 if you can afford it..., its the best card out there. The 7950 if the 7970 is too expensive for you, or finally the 660ti IF you can find it $50 cheaper than a 7950. Otherwise don't bother with a 660ti.

Again, cheers for all the advice and help. Been looking at graphics cards online and am a little confused, it seems lots of different companies sell the same model card. For instance Saffire and XFX sell the 7950. why is that? and whats the best to go for?(not necessarily the 7950). Cheers guys!
