Go to the run command in the start bar and type msconfig and hit enter. In the startup tab will be all the processes that you DON'T need. Not one of these is required to run Windows. The only ones I have enabled are my Nvidia drivers for video and raid. Typically you should be able to cut it down to 25 or less, think mine runs 19 processes total on startup.

Heres what i always do: Click Start>>Run>>Type "msconfig">>Unclick "Load Startup Items">>Apply/Okay>>Restart Computer Now when Windows XP loads, nothing should open expect for the ones you need to run the computer and Windows. Good luck i hope it works for you.
