Starting to fail the minimum requirements for newer games due to my video card. Thinking of spending less than $50 for now as the PSU is a bottleneck that I can't afford to replace now.

Current system:

You Have: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz

3GB Ram (upgrading to 4GB)

ATI Radeon HD 5400 (512 MB)

PSU 375w

I was thinking of a GT 610, would it but not sure if I can do better

hd 7750, $50 cards are a waste of time.

Maybe try hunting on ebay.

What resolution are you playing at?
Even with a sketchy 375w PSU, I would expect it could easily handle up to ~150w GPU.

I would suggest on saving up a bit more funds and, depending on your resolution, getting a ~$100 7770.

your whole PC is quite dated. I assume you have a 32 bit operating system so i wouldn't recommend upgrading to 4GB as you will not be able to use most of it anyway. and the gt 610 is a very low end card, and will not be much of an upgrade from your current card. so, in other words, save up for a new machine, or overclock the CPU and get a much better better graphics card than the two you mention as mentioned in the posts above

wow bro...just because it says "geforce" doesn't mean its any good, that card you picked out is absolute garbage and actually worse than your current card.  You can't do much with $50 unfortunately, your best option is to pick up a second hand card, you can get a ton of really sweet ones for $50-$70.  Also you should overclock that cpu.

ahh wrong answer. tc wait on hd 7730 it will probably fetch about $75 and will match wits with an hd 6750

610 is one of the worse cards you can buy. It is literally useless, you may as well use integrated - you won't be gaming on either.

If you really have to buy for $50 look for used cards.

At least go with a 620 or 640.

On the AMD side, try a 7770.

I'll check out used cards then. So a 7770 should be fine on my weak 375w PSU? I could spend more but I'm just worried that it'd be too much for my PSU that I have no interest in replacing

Should be, but I wouldn't want to guarantee it just in case :P
