Its a talk on physics optimization strategies. Would be a bit weird to announce Half Life 3 during that.

It's a bit odd that it's 3/3 at 3pm, don't ya think?
@freddy0: Well according to a new leak it's actually Source Engine 3. Yeah, 3 not 2. Supposedly Source Engine 2 has been around since 2009 but wasn't good enough to be considered a true successor.

so... good news? if they are investing in a new engine surely it must mean new games using it?

Saddest part that I'm afraid of is our expectations for HL3 are so huge that we will be disappointed.
Does another HL game at our current year is modern enough? gameplay mechanics and all of that? that's another question that I'm afraid they'll have to change something in gameplay to be dated.

i'm aware of that, and so i deliberately did not mention HL3. but we could see other games being built on source engine 3. i mean, ten years ago, who would have imagined a Dota 2 on a source engine?
valve may yet surprise us, but it may not be the surprise we are expecting, if that makes any sense at all.

I'm all in for new Garry's Mod if you'll ask me.
What if its L4D3? Left 4 Dead 3 being announce instead of Half Life 3 would be biggest meltdowns in the past few years. It was leaked a few years ago and supposed to be on source engine 2.
Since HL3 would be developed on the Source Engine 3, then it's probably safe to say HL3 is going to come soon after (they'll likely want to show off their engine like they did with HL2).

I don't think L4D3 would be all that disappointing, I'd take anything from Valve. Just look at the jump in production values from Portal 1 to Portal 2 and apply that to a new Left 4 Dead game...

What are you talking about? The only game that even has a working version of source 2 is DOTA 2, and that's not even released yet. It's only in alpha stage in the editor.

Well in a way Goldsource is source 1, source is source 2, so this would be source 3
Another Valve troll. 3/3 at 3PM but no Half Life 3 xD

Gold Source = source 1
Source engine = source 2
New source engine = source 3 ?
Not HL3. Not Portal 3. Not L4D3. But all three. Hence the 3 3 3.
Lol, we wish.
But then again, why is Valve making an announce at this specific date and time. . .?
It's gonna be a crossover game. They do all take place within the same world. HL3 with portal gun and zombies. It's gonna happen. Believe.
I honestly wish they would release more news on their gamepad.. There hasn't been any real news about it since mid last year.. And unlike their VR goggles in which there are like a half dozen already coming out in the market, I haven't seen anything like Valve's gamepad.. As for Half-Life 3, I am not so sure I want to see a sequel to that series now. The industry has basically taken Half-Life 2's formula with FPS's and repeated so many times to the point that they could not go the same route without being called a rehash or unimaginative.. They would have to do some thing huge in game changing features and mechanics in a genre that in one of the most hotly contested and over saturated genres out there.
Yet another troll attempt by Gabe Newell to force as many people as possible to watch some Steam Machine related stuff.
All these 3s are boggling my mind
Portal 3
Team Fortress 3
Left 4 Dead 3
A new Orange Box would be nice...

Cool ill be at EGX Rezzed next week, didnt know Valve had something going on there.
I thought the same thing. I hope, this will happen sometime?
Call me cynical but I doubt it's going to be Half-life 3.
You're cynical.
There's no reason to believe after all this time that they're actually going to make another Half-life.
From what I just read on Ars it probably has something to do with Valve working with Khronos Group on the brand new OpenGL revision called Vulkan. My guess is something to do with the Source engine being optimized for Vulkan or SteamOS supporting Vulkan.
I don't think there will be HL3 any way. Think I saw Gabe said that he doesn't want to do it yet any way as too much hype and he thinks that there be too much disappointment.?.

The only thing I wish is that they released a episode 3 like they stated early they were going to do.. Simply for some kind of closure if anything.
