Considering all the indies and low budget titles that come out on a daily basis, along with the backcatalog of older games, I'm amazed steam is only just now reaching 5000.

@Postosuchus: To be fair, they rotate games out from time to time. Since Origin came into existence pretty much all the EA games have vanished. Older versions of games get replaced by newer versions in some cases (i.e. all the Batman GOTY editions replaced the normal editions after GFWL support was pulled from them whereas before that they used to co-exist. I have 776 games in my Steam library and of those 43 are no longer in the store. Still, I was also surprised to hear that the total number of games was that low. I expected it would be somewhere close to double that.

That would be nice if they hooked it up with free GTA V :p I'll keep dreaming.

@so_hai: Personally I have 91 games in my Steam library. But on an interesting note many of them weren't purchased on Steam. I'd say at least half were physical copies purchased in store or bought on other digital sites such as Greenmangaming, Humble Bundle, Amazon, etc..

I wonder if this is common....

@PredatorRules: If you buy all 5,000 games, Steam will give you a free Steam game to add to your library.

Oh, wait... ;)

Was going to say the same thing. Much lower than I'd have guessed it to be really.

Just had a look at GOG's game page, and there's a lot of major "oldish" games that aren't on steam, like the original Infinity Engine titles and the Neverwinter Nightses. Suppose it's not that surprising then they're only reaching 5000, if the catalog of older titles isn't well fleshed out.

Nice. Pity I can't get EA games on steam though.

(Not that there are that many good EA games, but still...)
