I want to get myself a 'new' laptop and i would like some suggestions from you guys. My budget is around £350 and i don't mind is the laptop is new or used, from ebay or amazon etc.

I woulld like a 17-18 inch HD screen mainly for watching films but i would also like to be able to do some casual gaming. I wont be playing cod etc on my laptop as i have a PS3 for that. But i do like stratedgy/simulation games so i would like to be able to play the new Sims or Command and conquer on at least medium settings. I would also like to play Eve online. I have a Dell inspiron N5010, so you have something to go from.

So any advice/suggestions woulld be fantastic, i just don't want to be spending £350 ona laptop to find out i've bought a load of crap :P

I'll be honest here, you're not going to get much for £350.

Can you raise it to £400 at least?

What does that translate to in US$ these days?

Basically, if you want to be able to do at least some gaming, just avoid anything with integrated graphics (Intel HD graphics). Get something with a dedicated video card, even if it's a low end one. That might put you over budget, though, unless 400 pounds is ALOT more dollars than I think it is. If you can't get something with a dedicated video card, make sure it's got the Intel HD4000 graphics. But don't expect to run most recent games at any more than bare minimum, and 720p or less resolution.

For reference, my Dell Studio XPS 17 laptop cost me just a hair over $1000, in 2009. It's got a Radeon HD4670 1gb. I haven't encountered any games that I straight up can't run, but I do have to settle for pretty much minimum settings, 720p, and framerates in the 20s-30s for most games from the last couple years.

£400 is $634.56. Well like i said i'm not interested in playing Hardcore games such as Cod or any shooter in fact. I've been bidding on this laptop http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261155918618?ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1426.l2649

Make sure the descent is slow when you put them on a table.

I thought it was good, until I saw the unreliable wifi, and battery replacement comment.
