I'm making this thread because it's a bit after the holiday season, so some people might have gotten some new gear. I'll start with my he-400 and Schiit Magni and modi stack

Even 1080p is "good enough". There is a huge difference between 1080p and 1440p, however. There is a huge difference between 1440p and 2160p.

We will eventually hit a point where increasing resolution doesn't do much, but we aren't there yet.

Headphones

  • Cresyn CS-HP600's (for serious listening), often compared to theAudio Technica A700 (they actually make OEM versions of AT phones)
  • Turtle Beach X12's (for 360)

Speakers/Reciever

  • Polk Audio Tsi 300's
  • Sunfire True Subwoofer MK1(down) and Dayton Audio Sub-1200
  • Denon AVR-1612

I would recommend the headphones. Your GPU won't be able to handle it, also they will sound AMAZING.

My SLI setup handles downscaling from resolutions of 2160p and above well in demanding games, I should be fine. I will eventually get both, it's just a matter of which I buy first.

Upstairs I have my AudioEngine A5's hooked up to a computer with an X-Fi Forte sound card. Downstairs I have a pair of KRK Rokit 8 G2s hooked up to a Cambridge DacMagic. In my room I have a 4.1 setup (ditched the center speaker after testing) with a pair of Energy RC-50s up front, a pair of RC-Minis in the back, and a PA-120 subwoofer hooked up to an Onkyo TX-SR607. At my girlfriend's I have a pair of RC-Minis powered by a Datyon DTA-1 for modest computer use. All computer speakers are seated upon Auralex Mopads. Oh yea, and I have Grado SR-225i headphones.

My recent purchase is Vsonic's GR07 Bass Edition IEM here for portability. My computer speakers are M-Audio AV40s and when it's late I use Sennheiser HD 280 Pros + JDS Lab cmoyBB

Little Dot MK III headphone/pre amp

How do you like the Little Dot?

I think the MK III is a great amp, although I haven't done any tube rolling yet. The only problem is I tend to juggle back and forth between the MK III and the NFB10SE.

Cambridge Audio Dacmagic Plus --> Hifiman HE-400 & Ultrasone DJ1 (mainly for portable use) and KRK Rokit RP5 speakers on Atacama Audio DUO10 stands. The Rokit's are possibly getting changed to a pair of the new Wharfedale Diamond 122 speakers and a NAD 316BEE amplifier in the coming weeks though.

They're definitely good for the price! Quite underrated headphones actually, the bass is very nice and tight and the treble is sparkly. These (or the HFI-580) should be recommended more often to people along with the usual ATH-M50 & DT-770, especially if music taste is EDM & pop, I think that's their strongest field.

Yes :) I managed to snag mine for $15 used while I was auditioning AudioEngine A2s. With those speakers, placement was truly everything, and the bass improved considerably once I got the Mopads. It was not necessarily the depth, but rather the bass grew punchier and significantly less boomy.

I lent some to a friend who had AugioEngine A5s sitting on his desk. After taking them back, he propped them up on some books and said it just wasn't the same.My friend bought ended up some new Mopads, reasoning that they're simply worthwhile and you'll use them forever. It doesn't just provide for the better isolation from the desk, it also better raises and angles all my speakers so the tweeters and woofers are eye level, as well as facing slightly upwards. I managed to get about 3 pairs of Mopads from my 1 used purchase (with some cutting work).

You could buy a large piece of foam and cut it yourself? Something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/MDM-8602-Speaker-Acoustics-Foam-125990/dp/B002HD6BJC/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1358287887&sr=8-13. Just an example, local hifi stores usually have something similar to offer.

[QUOTE="kraken2109"]Do you know of a similar brand/product for cheaper? I can't bring myself to spend £30 for some foam... :Pspittis

That foam is for putting on the front of speakers for protection, I'm looking for something I can put them on to isolate them from the desk/windowsill

Nice

I haven't balanced them yet, hopefully I'll get around to it soon.

NVIDIATI

Nice, I've heard BTG-Audio is very good.

I plan to make a cable and balance them myself. Most likely purchase the parts from Solen.

I wish I could solder:(

Desktop audio setup: Creative X-Fi Titanium HD -> Onkyo TX-SV515PRO -> Stax SRD-7/SB -> Stax SR-Lambda I could listen to music or game for hours with that setup, so delightful. I didn't even like the SRS-2020 system (SRM-212 + SR-202) setup as much due to a relatively recessed midrange and higher clamping force reducing long-term comfort, leading me to the odd conclusion that only vintage Lambdas or possibly the flagship Omega series (SR-Omega, SR-007 Omega II, SR-009) would truly satisfy me. In other news, I'm getting the opportunity to audition a HiFiMan HE-400 and an AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition soon, without having to plunk down the big bucks for them first. More headphone experience is always nice.

Currently listening to my DT880s and its hard to put them down. Really nice headphone both comfort and sound. Was also considering the O2/ODAC before the Schiit M&M stack came out.

One thing i never understood is why people think the he-400's are so heavy. Before i bought them, that was pretty much the biggest "draw" from them, comfort and weight. Neither bother me at all, i mean i feel them on my head, yes, but it isn't annoying. Gets better with time, definitely. I think sometime this year i should get a nice ~$300 portable to go with them, possible the m100's or the sony mdr 1r's. Maybe even the sennheiser momentum's.

Pssh, they aren't portable at all. Plus, the he-400's outclass them
