It seems I have a hardware failure, but I can't quite put a finger on exactly what.

My dekstop doesn't POST when booting. The boot screen doesn't show, just a black monitor (the monitor is on and getting a signal though).

All the fans are on, no beeping noises. The LEDs on the motherboard for CPU phases get about 3/4 of the way lit up and don't go further.

I've tried:

- reseating the RAM

- unplugging certain harddrives

- changing GPUs

- unplugging the pc, waiting, and rebooting

Could my mobo be kicking the bucket?

Yep sounds like the mobo, if you have Windows 7 then you can replace the motherboard and not need to reinstall anything so you'll be fine with a replacement.

Remove the CMOS battery, unplug the computer, and wait 30 minutes. Then put it back in and see if it works. Aren't CMOS batteries universal in size? So you can buy one and put it in the mobo if it doesn't work.

Try a different PSU, I've seen some actually turn on the computer like yours but do nothing more. Also look for blown caps.

after running around confused for a day, I finally found the issue

The monitor died...well the screen did, but it was still getting power, giving me the impression that the system wasn't booting....silly technology :P

Thanks for all the replies, folks :)
