Hi there,

I would like to know what would be more beneficial in terms of performance in games. Would I get a higher boost if I SLY two GTX560 Ti or would I just be better off getting a GTX580?

Thanks in advance.

2 GTX 560 Ti's are better than a single GTX 580.

GTX580. there's too many issues with sli/crossfire such as drivers and microstutter and game support. If you don't want to deal with this drama then single GPU is the way to go.

I've never had any issue with SLI. As for game support, you can easily create your own SLI profiles via the nVidia control panel. Just click Manage 3D Settings, click on the Program Settings tab, select the game, and choose Alternate Frame Rendering...

Ok, thank you all for your input. I'll be getting a second GTX560 Ti then.

Same here, I've even done it on 2003 games, lol.

Get another gtx560.. but i dislike both sli and top notch high priced cards costing 500 dollars. I'd stick with single gtx560, and sli doesn't work well in all games, so it only heats up a bit ur machine.

Ultimately, this is the truth. Sli does have its issues here and there and top notch high priced cards like the GTX 580 isn't worth $500. I have a 580 and I regret it actually. I should have purchased a 570 and overclocked it to hell and back.

580 You'll have more video memory with that as SLI doesn't combine the 560s to make 2GB, will still only use the 1GB. There are games out there that use mroe than 1GB of video memory like GTA 4 for example. Also SLI and Crossfire are never perfect and lots of games out there hate it. You can always sell the 560 and go SLI 580 later on if you really wanted to when the 600 series comes out and they all go cheap on ebay.

It's tiring to read all these posts that make it sound like SLI/Xfire setups aren't working properly. I'm not only talking about the replies in this thread but in general. I bet that not all these people have even ran a dual card setup in their own rig, just jumping on the bandwagon. I'm on my second dual card setup and the only real problem I've encountered as far as I can remember was with an indie game demo that would crash unless I disabled SLI. It's absurd to tell the TC to buy a GTX 580 when adding a second 560 gives him more performance and he avoids having to sell his current card for a most likely shi*ty second hand price.

I have 2 GTX 560Tis and I feel like they are crap. Just get a single GTX580 or wait for the new AMD ones. Could be cause I set them up badly... i don't know, first time I'm doing SLi and very disappointed. Can't max BF3 without horrendous stuttering/framedropping, can't max Skyrim either... Only game I've been able to max is SC2... (it's only these 3 games that are installed on my PC though).

I always go powerful single card over 2 weaker ones, avoids issues that can arise. Look at how many times people have to wait for XFire or SLI profiles for newer games.

Get the GTX 580, you'll run into issues too often for the 560 to be worth it.

I would get the 580, single card is always preferrable to SLI IMO. Even when there is a slight performance gain from SLI

Just get one 560ti, you don't need to SLI it since its already powerful enough to run most recent games on maxed out quality. I would just wait till they start releasing the 600 series, and then once the prices drop for other cards you could get your self a 2nd 560ti if you wish.

I'm guessing that you got the 1GB versions? You're going to have to decrease the texture detail. If it wasn't for your lack of VRAM, you would be getting a solid 60fps in every game on max settings, assuming that you have a decent CPU that is...

Hrm... That's kinda lame. What happens to the 2nd cards Vram? Wasted?

I have an i5 2500k @ stock 3.3GHz

And I guess from what you're saying, I can put everything on Ultra (i don't use MSAA, I have FXAA on High and SSAO, guess I'll try HBAO) except keep Textures on High? I'll try that out tonight. Maybe that will make me feel like I have not wasted money on getting a 2nd one.

I have two HD 6950's and the only benefit on having two of them is AA... By getting another $200 GPU all your are doing is removing jaggies. I regret the purchase of my second card, what game could you possibly be "struggling" with? Play the games and get another card in 1/2 years time. I don't understand the obsession of having a extra frames frames per second. It's such a waste of money. In fact I would go as far as saying if you have anything as good as a HD 5830/GTX 460 you don not need a better GPU... The difference between High and Very high is pathetic in most cases and all cards struggle with Metro 2022/Witcher 2/Crysis... the hand full of games that actually push hardware aren't worth paying $400-$500 for in GPU power. My "old" pc has a HD 4890... It runs everything on medium to high and completely destroys games that aren't using the absolute latest engines which are 80% of the games out. Its a 560Ti... it runs BFBC2 at 80FPS+ at 1080p. WTF is wrong with PC gamers?

What problems do people experience with SLI? All the games I tried on them worked fine.
