Scary PC Games:

So if I'm looking for a good frightening game to play where should I start?

Already Played:

Doom 3

FEAR

Half-life and Half-life 2 (ya they had their moments!!!)

Bioshock

I was wondering about maybe Deadspace before ZP's review completely panned it

Resident Evil 4

Call of Cthulhu Dark Corners of The Earth (really spooky atmosphere in the first half of the game... the it turns into shooting, sadly)

Clive Barker's Undying (not as scary as the others, but it's still good)

Condemned: Criminal Origins (from the same developers, using the same engine but much, much scarier than FEAR. IMO)

Manhunt (well, not that scary but it's definitely tense)

Penumbra Overture and Penumbra: Black Plague (play Overture first, then Black Plague. BP is the scariest game EVER made, imo)

STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl (install Oblivion Lost 2.2 mod for maximum scariness)

System Shock 2 (really, really recommended. If you thought Bioshock was scary, you've seen NOTHING yet!)

The scariest game I've ever played on PC though is Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines, but it's buggy as hell.Orrendamente

Vampire Bloodlines isn't buggy anymore, if you download the unofficial patch almost all of the bugs are fixed.;)

I couldn't play Penumbra Black Plague. I uninstalled it after two hours of playing. It was simply too friggin scary. Much scary then FEAR although FEAR definetly has it's moments.MrWednesday14

I played through Black Plague. Alone, at night, lights off, with headphones using Sound Blaster X-Fi for 3D effects and EAX. 9 PM to 6 AM, no pauses. I still have nightmares but it was quite an experience.

I would also recommend the Thief games 1-3. biggest_loser

Thief 1 is definitely scary, Thief 2 not so much (unless you count the fan missions) and Thief 3 has that one certain level that everybody's talking about... and for a good reason.

Oh how much I love horror games :D I wish there'd be more of 'em...

The scariest game on PC is STALKER: SOC - but I would also recommend the Thief games 1-3. biggest_loser

let me see...

-try aliens versus predator (go with gold edition).. I played it as a kid and it scared me few times and still has great multiplayer, the sequel is not scary at all.. it's more story driven game with slow MP

-then you can try silent hill series as people here pointing out, but only the first one was actually scary (and you have to play it via emulator) and interesting the rest is quite boring and has only scary moments, like all survival horror games (which are actually no horrors at all) but one...

...called "the thing" best one around btw.. resident evil is not worth it anymore as you most probably saw movies..

-if you want great story go with Undying it's fine and if you want a shooter.. well I like Jericho more then FEAR

just remeber the key.. you have to create enviroment which simulates empty hangar in nevada desert at 2am with dolby surround 7+1, that's right.. this elevate those games I mentioned into a completely new level..

:O Wow im the only person here who played Undying? That game was scary as hell T_T, i still remember i had to playing that game cuz i got too scared hahaha. Of course that was like 4 years ago xD it might not be as bad now but still give it a try ^^.TanKLoveR

id second undying but i found painkiller more satisfying. also to note if u like turning people brains into cave paintings try SoF payback. odds are u can find it in a bargain bin for a 1.00 and for that dollar it servers its purpose for meybe a weeks forth of shooting the AI's kneecaps off and watching them crawl around.
