Yeah I can only imagine it's price tag. Here in Australia anyway, $1000+ easily.

Lets see if a R9 390X with a nice OC can reach around 10 TFLOPS.

Get two of this in CF and you get 20 TFLOPS just crazy.

I've seen these rumors earlier(though not the specifics of the 380X) and its still fuzzy because AMD did recently say fairly clearly that 20nm wasn't coming this year.

It also means that the rumors about the first line of Nvidia 800 series being 28nm again would have to be untrue as they aren't gonna release an entire new line of 28nm cards that would get blown away by AMD's 20nm line. I would think if AMD can get their hands on 20nm chips this early, so could Nvidia.

So I'd like to see something more concrete as there's still conflicting information out there.

That Iknow... But I wonder... Will this be hawaii island with 20nm or a new architecture again? If it is the latter, there is a chance for decreased power consumption and thus lower temperature... They could also fix their stock cooler I suppose.

hot enough to make you a toast.

If I get one, I will run it under water cooling. If a custom loop with at least 120*4 radiator won't keep it cool, nothing will.

It can still draw a lot of power...

Man, I'm pretty curious how well that 390X will hash, sounds like a pretty beastly card.

TSMC 20nm is designed for low power chips, and the transistors cost just as much as 28nm, meaning it's not good for graphics or wallets. Hopefully they'll wait for "16nm" finfet which is really just improved 20nm.

Yeah, I wouldn't be using them for mining Bitcoin thats for certain. There are a lot of alt coins that ASIC's are useless on thankfully! I've not made a fortune by any means but I've mined quite a few coins so I guess you'd only be speaking for yourself with that statement. Either way I'm still quite interested in how these will perform.

Right now is a darn near perfect time to buy coins if you're going to simply buy them. I'm pretty hopeful that the values are going to be going up quite soon.

Companies always talk in Fiscal Years, especially when the report came from a quarterly earnings meet...

is this a joke? so basically next gen AMD cards... unless you wanna spend 1K for the 390X... will basically just be a mediocre upgrade from last gen.

meanwhile they will probably still run 100 degrees and devour power.

Well in that case, its not only not coming this year, but not til next spring at the earliest!

I don't see how that changes what I said.

Where was it mentioned that it'd cost $1000 for the 390X? The 290X doesn't cost anywhere near that(at least not MSRP) and you can get an almost-as-powerful 290 for another $100 cheaper still.

448GB/s and 8.4TF is hardly a 'mediocre' upgrade. That's impressive stuff. Even that 380X looks to be *at least* comparable with a Titan, which is not bad for a mid-range card.

As for running 100 degrees, perhaps on reference cooler design, but the 290/290X run quite favourably on 3rd party designs. And we have no idea of the power draw or heat output of these new cards, so its pretty pointless to start jumping to conclusions. They could go conservative or they could go aggressive, we don't know yet.

That ends more or less when they want too...? Or is it common for that year to end in March/April?

There's nothing stopping them from using whatever date they want. Its just more useful to stick with common convention, which is why Mar/Apr is usually what is being referred to.

Is this something that works differently in the US to Europe? Surely if AMD states its balance sheet date as the end of December in their annual report, then that's when their fiscal year ends.

Either way, it sounds like 20nm isn't on the cards for 2014.
