im running 2 geforce 6800xt vid cards in SLI mode using a 500 watt PSU. im upgrading to 2 geforce 7900gs vid cards on the same PSU. should i upgrade my PSU? i dont think its SLI approved. any comments or suggestions?

If your current PSU can run 6800XT's in SLI,i don't see how it can't run SLIed 7900GS'es,but don't bother with SLI,get a mid-end dx 10 card when they come out.

What kind of deal are you getting on the 7900s? As far as power goes, you should be okay, since the 7900's wouldn't draw that much more than what a pair of 6800's would. If you're paying full price, then my suggestion somewhat mirrors Aaron's, but I would suggest seeing if you could get in on a sale for even an 8800gts (320MB if you have to), as it would be a much larger leap in terms of what you could with a pair of 7900GS's.

im getting the 7900gs cards for about 300 total. i thought about getting a dx10 card but im just gonna wait. i dont mind spending the money. im not rich, i just mean i dont mind spending the money. i plan on building a new box within the next year or so anyway.

thats a really good price. i guess thats what i get for not being a more dilligent bargain hunter. oh well. hell, just a day after i bought these cards i saw a pair that were slightly better for a few dollars more. eh. you live and learn.
