$59.99 = Thermaltake ATX 12V 2.0 Version 500 W (PSU)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16817153028

$78.99 = pqi TURBO 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM 667 (PC2 5400) (RAM, will buy one now & get another in a few months as well)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820141210

$215 = AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Windsor 2.6 Ghz Socket AM2

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16819103030

I would rather Go intel Core 2 duo [a E6400 will blow away that X2 IMO] and get a 8600GT im march, wasting money on 2 7600GT's is a bad Idea :( there is no real performance gain from SLi especially with a 7600GT, for a about $700/$800 you can get a Intel Equivalent with DirectX 10 if you wait till march!

I will post specs soon of a Intel Dx10 PC :D

ETA March 2007 8600GT - 650/1800 - 256mb GDDR3 - 128bit - 64 unified Shaders - 80Nm - $199

       Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 - $185.00 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115005

ASUS P5N-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 650i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - $139.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131142

Transcend JetRam 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) - $74.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820208084

Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W SLI Ready-ATX 12V V2.01 Power Supply - $64.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817182032

Acer Value Line AL1917WAbd Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor - $179.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824009100

AeroCool ExtremEngine 3T - BBA Black SECC 0.6mm ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $109.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811196021

Total $750, and about $949 if you add the 8600GT. The E6300 can be Overclocked to about 3.0Ghz! which makes it a bargain as a mid/low end CPU and I chose the AeroCool becuase it has 150mm and 120mm fans on it making it a perfect choice to keep things cool! :D

Would also recomend adding 1 gig of ram not to far in the future :D

i agree with glordit. nvidia states that " a single 8800gts is faster than two 7950GTX SLI." everything else seems fine, though i would go for the EVGA 680i SLI for a gaming PC. ive had some problems with ASUS, but its up to you.

Thanks for the replies, this is actually my buddies list he's putting together, he just types slow as hell so I'm helping him out..... I'll be bldg. my rig next mo. for sure. Biggest thanks to Gordit... very responsive... you win! :-D Glad we know about the 7600 vid. cards... seems to be a all around NO on that one... wait for an 8600 Ultra if at all possible.... even if the fever to build a new PC is burning a hole in my buddies' fresh tax return $.... I think he wants to build it now before he blows it on something else. LOL Anyhow...Ok, so I what about the intel dual core 2 E6600 proc. mentioned from New Egg above? It's $315 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115003&ATT=19-115-003&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch)! That's $100 more than the orig. CPU or the E6400.... is the E6600 really necessary/worth it? Or will a E6400 suffice for a couple of years & not bottleneck an 8600 Ultra? Also, there was the 680 SLI mother bd. mentioned for $100 more than the orig. one posted, or the one by Gordit... is there something magical about this board? Can someone please explain if this necessary/worth the extra $100 as well. Remember, trying to build a great PC for around $950.. Thanks again everyone.

Ok, after some more revisions & stretching his budget.... we went to $1350 w/ this list, he's going to wait till next month to purchase the 8600 ultra card.  (and the hard drive is free) please comment:

I'd say a 700W power suppy is a bit much.  Even the craziest 8800GTX I could find only asked for 450W.

Also, it should be noted that there is a strong possibility the 8600 Ultra is just a rumor.  We keep hearing that there will be budget Series 8 cards in March, but the price and specs on the 8600UL are a bit too good to be true.

Oh forgot to add this: You should be able to get a good 500W power supply, take the cash you save and buy 2GB of RAM instead of 1GB.  And unless your friend is going to overclock his CPU, the E6400 only needs DDR2-533.
