Hey peeps so im doing a new build.. i used an as rock e4.. everything worked except peripharals.. so I got a new mobo and the same thing happens? no post beeps. takes me to bios everything else works though? I tried another psu from my old build and same results? tried about 4 different sata cables.. i use an ssd, hdd and dvd drive.. when i plug the hdd in it smokes and smells of burning lol.. any ideas?

smoking is not a good sign that for that drive. have you tried using different sata ports? try connecting the ssd only in a different sata port.

Enter your BIOS, set the SATA hard disk controller mode to IDE instead ACHI if its that.

Also things to try

Trying different sata ports

Upgraded to latest Board BIOS

Does this sound like a mobo or psu issue? btw I tried my old psu which worked perfect on my old built but with the new build, with same results..

Corsair AX 860 btw.

Hello.

I have the same PSU.

First thing that pass my mind is that your PSU might be defective. Smoke as 04dcarraher said is not a good sign. You might want to give your PSU back.

An other thing that I thought and its the reason I posted this picture, is to ask you. Are you sure that you placed the right cables for the HDD to the right place in the PSU?

I can't really see how a motherboard can make an HDD to smoke and smell like burning...

Thanks for the reply peeps.. yeh i placed them in the peripheral sata port, i'm not that stupid! ;) getting a replacement tomorrrow anyway, no i blaimed the mobo because no power to peripherals, i tried my old psu that worked fine last week with this build and same results!
