I have a tablet and I'm looking for some simple and fun games which I would be able to play. I have no keyboard and can make use only of the mouse (meaning a pen) and the button which opens the task manager (I can use it to quit a game anytime). I'm looking for a game which would work for me, probably an adventure or RPG game. Can be an old one - with simple graphics but addicting, e.g. "Heroes of Might and Magic III" which works great in my situation. Cheers, Kasin

The older Infinity Engine games should work ok in that situation (with Auto-Pause enabled on Enemy Spotted and whatnot, and possibly a tweak to disable the pause turning off in inventory). BG 1 + TotSC, BG 2 + ToB, Icewind Dale 1 + HoW, Icewind Dale 2 Most turn based strategy should work. The main problem I see is the lack of RMB/LMB (unless you can simulate both mouse buttons somehow) for certain situations [like showing description dialogs in the BG/IW games].

Puzzle Quest I and II.

Thank you both for your suggestions, something like "Icewind Dale" is just what I need ;]

Well, it's no problem for me as my pen has a RMB button built-in ;]

As for adventure games, I'd recommend Machinarium, the Monkey Island series and the Sam and Max episodes (the newer ones are a bit graphics-intensive, so I don't know if you can run them), if you haven't already played those.

Sam and Max, monkey island, jolly rover are all decent point and click adventure games, you also have games like build alot and pretty much anything big fish makes.

Any RTS and TBS game can be played with mouse only. Also, Chicken Ivaders.

Thanks for great ideas. I have another question. Is there a way to use the on-screen keyboard (the Widows one) in game window ? It would be very helpful because I can't even start a multiplayer game in Heroes III as the game wants me to input the player names. Copy/paste doesn't work. Same goes for some other games. I could play them using only a mouse but I need to input the player/profile name and I can't even start.

Anything developed by Telltale

Is it Windows 7? If it is Start Menu > All Programs > Accessories > Ease of Access (folder) > On-screen Keyboard

Edit: I'm not sure if that stays once you launch the games though...

AFAIK the on screen keyboard doesn't work with any full screen graphical app (eg: games) [well, it might work sporadically with some but it was never intended to be a full keyboard replacer]. A quick google brought up some sites talking about such software to make things easier on people with disabilities. One such site even takes games into account: http://www.ablegamers.com/hardware-news/on-screen-keyboard-review-we-break-them-down.html

you seem to have a windows tablet, i have to ask, is there no USB port (or other method to add a peripheral like bluetooth), or is it just that you cannot carry a mouse or keyboard with you?

I have a tablet as well. I'd recommend playing adventure games: Machinarium, all the Telltale games, etc. Also, keep in mind that sadly, the pen does not work within DOSBOX, or at least I haven't figured out how to get it to. Depending on the specs of the tablet, I'd recommend Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights or Neverwinter Nights 2. Just keep in mind that in the RPGs listed you may want to bind one of the tablet's side buttons to the pause function.

Edit: Neverwind Nights 1 can be set up to use the rotated "page view." It doesn't work perfectly, but it's pretty great. NWN2 may support this too.

Some screenies:

Happy gaming.
