Nvidia GM200 GPU (GTX Titan II) Spotted

Okay, spotted is a big word here and Titian II is just a name that is totally unconfirmed of course. But it is a trend on the web these days that people lookup shipping bills. And wccftech noticed that shipping data at Zauba.com shows that Nvidia has been moving a sample of a GPU tagged as GM200 core (yes again). Earlier in July we noticed as well. This basically means that Nvidia has taped out the early A1 revision GPUs and engineering samples. This could mean a high-end launch Maxwell GPU as soon as Christmas IF wafer yields are decent enough.

Next month Nvidia is expected to release the GeForce GTX 870 and 880 based on GM204. As expected, the GM200, much like the like the GM204 will be a Maxwell GPU. We are a little unsure whether if the TSMC 20nm node still is giving issues and is used. If that one is problematic then GM200 would be a 28nm part. This means that these processors will be HUGE in size, perhaps even over 620 mm² so we find that a little doubtful as heat would become an immense issue next to wafer yields. Earlier rumors already have indicated that GM200 would feature more than 4000 Shader processors albeit that is gossip of the highest level. Expected though is that the memory bus will be widened up towards 512-bit giving this product a heck of a lot of bandwidth. The GM200-based "GeForce GTX TITAN II" could launch in the first half of 2015, but everything in this post is could have and would have.

Nvidia is hosting a very big reveal event on 10 – 12 September next month and this is where the second generation Maxwell will make its debut.

Before the first ‘CS’ entry which appeared on 12th August 2014, there had only been entries using the nomenclature ‘INT’ which means the core is meant for Internal Testing. Because green follows the same pattern we knew that once the INT chips were spotted the CS chips wouldn’t be that far behind and it looks like our waiting has paid off because the chips with the name GM200-CS0-A1 and GM200-CS1-A1 have been spotted, indicating that the GPU is now more or less ready. This core will have double the performance per watt of the GK110 core (as can be seen from the research paper) and we should see an amazing leap in gaming performance from 204 to 200. So the jump from Titan to the Titan II is shaping out to be pretty cool.

The GTX Titan II (or whatever it is called) should give you a minimum of 50% performance increase in Gaming in real life settings, seeing we are looking at a 100% boost in on-paper performance. Considering the fact that the research paper by Nvidia also claimed that the Titan II would be out before the end of 2014 means that the time line for this GPU is now more or less confirmed. I believe we are looking at a 2 Month launch window considering the history of the GM204 core. That would put the the launch of the GM200 GPU somewhere around November, unless Nvidia manages to pull one on us and launch alongside GM204.

ps: If this this 512bit continues the high clocks of 384bit used by Nvidia, they can reach 500GB/s bandwith...

Yayyyyyyy birthday present, well at least an announcement birthday present.

Now the only thing left is to convice people they know you how much do you want a new GPU :P.

I want one, but can't afford one... Also want a new monitor, think I'll get that first though.

This 8800 had to come out of retirement, it wants to go back to sleeping/eating/and whatever else retired GPU's do.

Well a little slower non-Titan and less VRAM version would be available sooner or later, so we might be able to grab a GM200.

Perhaps when AMD release the R9 3xx series. (I hope they will bring enough performance not like 7970 or it will turn like boomerang :S).

8800? :O Now this would be an upgrade of great magnitude...

The 8800GT was in the same level as GT640 DDR3 today.

The new GM200 will have performance equal or more to the R9 295X2.

We are talking for a ten times better GPU...

Now if you have a lower 8800 like me (8800GTS 320MB) the upgrade will be even bigger...

ps: I doubt you bought the 1st ridiculously overpriced Nvidia GPU the 8800 Ultra...

Neither of those 3 GPU's, its the g92 512MB version, I just want the 860 or 870, not getting titan 2 or whatever its going to be called.

Hopefully it launches around the time Witcher 3 comes out.

This is gonna be my next upgrade.

8800GT is the G92-200 chip with 256/512/1024MB versions :P.

I think I will go for GTX860-870 like @GTR12 although I am afraid that this GTX860 will be a GM206 and it might not offer at least GTX780 performance that I want....

Ok lol, its the 8800GTS 512MB, hopefully the 860 will have 4GB VRAM and be capable of actually using it, unlike the 760...

2GB VRAM isn't enough for the res I play at, and 3GB is just enough, 4GB gives it some wiggle room. Unless the 2GB cards are insanely fast.

@GTR12: Yeah the 8800GTS 512MB is the G92-400 which had only a 512MB version :P.

I agree completely with you. I need 3-4GB VRAM too since from the G80 days my GPU always had faced VRAM problems before the GPU power.

But I don't want just big VRAM like GIGABYTE did with GTX660 (they have a 3GB version) which the GPU will run out of GPU power long before it will run out of VRAM.

So a good GTX860 with performance more than GTX780 with 4GB RAM will be the ideal for me....

I think you are hoping for to much with the GTX860

The 860 will probably just be a 770 that only needs one pcie connector.

Ooooooo.....it's looking like it might be time to finally upgrade from those crossfire 7950's...

Don't get me wrong...they're still running like champs...but I've been thinking about really upgrading (or starting a new pc) for quite awhile now. Can't wait to hear some new details.

That is what you'd expected from a refresh not a new model.

Going off of previous new models the mid end always compared closely with the last models high end.

GTX 260 beat the 9800GTX.

GTX 460 performed closely to the GTX 280.

GTX 660 is similar to the GTX 580.

This would be the weakest new release ever seen if an 860 could barely compete with a 770.

I just hope my GTX 770 can keep up with my standards and I can make do with a nice G-Sync monitor once those show up on the market.

That's why I hope GTX860 to be equal to GTX780...

All previous generations till 8800GTS 320MB (the third model in line after 8800GTX and GTS 640MB, with fewer cores) even and 6600GT, they were equal or better than previous flagships.

Ha, I am in the same boat, exact same monitor. Looking at either the GTX870/GTX880 depending on price. But which ever I choose it needs several Gigs of Vram.

Some consumer samples have 8GB VRAM instead of 4GB, so expect also some more expensive models to have 8.

Ha, I would have settled for 6GB, 8GB would be more than enough for the next 3-5 years at 1440p. That would easily satisfy me.

I doubt the 880 can even handle/use 8GB VRAM, the bandwidth isn't fast enough.

@GTR12: Either way, I would still be happy with at least 6GB. But we will see here before too long.

As I siad before the standar will be 4GB. Like almost all Nvidia cards they are versions of double VRAM. GTX880 with the consumer sample of 8GB seems it will follow this rule...

I'll be happy with a 3GB 860 and 4GB 870 personally.
