monitor or graphics card

getting some screen jitter and the monitor shuts off occasionally. Is it the monitor,card, or cpu getting hot? temp is in the low forties. put 4 more gigs of ram to give me 6 and the memory tested ok. been thinking of getting an upgraded card i have a gtx 220 now. i also wanted to upgrade to a larger flatscreen monitor. any suggestions or advice would be welcome, thanks.

The monitor shuts off? As in like whe you turn it off from the power button? Then maybe it could be something with power cable wrong or more likely with the monitor itself getting power. But most likely it's the video card.

I would suggest you try it with a different monitor but since you did say you wanted to upgrade then you should get a new monitor and a video card.:P

When the monitor shuts off, is your PC still running?

If so, the problem lies between the monitor and the connection cable. Try different monitors or TVs to see if it's working as it should. If they keep shutting down while your PC is still running, I would assume that it's your graphics card on its way out. If you have other spare GPUs, try them out. But check the monitor first.

yeah the computer is still running but the monitor flickers and then folds up and blinks out or shrinks and blinks. my card may be getting hot. blew out the fan. neverwinter nights is always freezing up after a couple hours of playing it, turned down the settings, got alittle better but still doing it. Is there some way to check my cards temp?

GT220 is basically a rebadged 9500GT, which is a rebadged 8600GT.

Basically you're using a card that was low end in 2006.

woa! it was old when i bought it 3 years ago. still for less then a hundred dollars i got my moneys worth its been running all my games till now except neverwinter. medium settings but i don't care how it looks as much as how it plays. thanks for the info all i have a msi board but not the card so the temp check may not work.

a hamster wheel is faster than a P4. i had a 2.8ghz p4 and it took litterally 10 mins to boot up
