I get McAfee (yea yea.. it sucks) for free from my bank. Have had it for a couple of months now. For some reason.. the scan stops at 14% .. and it scans verry slowly.. Anyone know why im encountering this problem?

Best to ask here https://community.mcafee.com/welcome

It's very unlikely anyone here uses mcafee.

What security software does everyone use? I like AVG, personally.

AVG free is what I use(unchecked all the optional components in the install). It actually detects PUPs and most importantly it has an "allow program". Avast does not have an "allow" option, and it drove me insane. MSE doesn't do anything, so I don't recommend it. (It has really bad detection ratings)

PUP protection is fairly important as I've encountered a few programs that install adware even if you uncheck it in the install.

To the OP if you'd like to save a headache, just try AVG.

I use AVG, but that has become pretty bloated just like every other software suite that ha been around for a long time. Don't know of any better ones.

Can these software suites actually be considered "bloated" now a days with performance impact? This was a concern back in the mid 2000's, but now pc hardware is just so far ahead for the demand of most software to even be a concern.

Has been the best for years! It is our AV of choice, and if you are smart enough with sales, you can get it dirt cheap. Our last purchase of it including rebates cost a total of a whopping $0 for 3 pcs for an entire year.

Its a no-nonsense AV, that easily gets the job done without being in the way much.

@CWEBB04z: Delete it and use Comodo. Comodo's free version is 10x better than McAfee's paid version. Just make sure you disable sandboxing because it's too secure and can block some safe programs.
