I have a Lenovo z510 laptop, running on Intel i3-4000M (2,4 GHz), 8GB RAM and Nvidia Geforce 740 GT (2GB). I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) as OS. I have noticed that when I play random games on my laptop, afterwards it freezes on the "shutting down" screen and I have to shut it down by pressing the power button.

It happens randomly and not every time, but ONLY after playing a game. If I don't play any games, the problem disappears. I tried re-installing the OS, but nothing changed. I also have the latest drivers installed for basically every of the laptop components. Any idea what the problem might be? Thank you and much appreciated.

Could it be one of the online clients is still active when you try to shut down the laptop?

Most games these days come with an online client to make them launch (Steam, Origin, Uplay etc).

I'm just guessing here but do you shutdown the client after you exit the game before closing the laptop?

Of course I do, although I also play games on Steam, which do not cause freezing, even if I haven't closed the client.

Your laptop could also be delaying the shutdown (which appears like freezing) so that it can keep the fan running on the GPU to bring it down to a safe temp.

Just to prove that, play a game for 30 mins or so, exit out so its just sitting on the desktop, leave it for 10 mins and then try shutdown.
