KOTOR compatibility?

Alright, I guess this isn't that much of a hardware question, but I am upgrading my OS soon. (I use XP) My friend tried installing Knights of the Old Republic 1 on his computer, which ran Vista 64 bit , but received an error message telling him the game cannot be played. My question is, can Vista run KOTOR, or should I get the somewhat more expensive Windows 7?

He bought it at Best Buy, maybe he installed something wrong...

you can, but you need the no cd crack... im not even kidding lol.

I've heard finding a new .dll file (search yahoo) will let you play. I had to get one for KOTOR 2 and it runs just fine now. Before, I got the same message.
