Wait for December 19th, Steam will have Winter sale.

I'd get Steam and Origin installed now.

Also can't go wrong with Skyrim.

Be warned, Dark Souls is terrible on the PC. Some may not agree but I would not bother, the game is simply made for consoles and is a terrible PC port, even with "fixes".

You really need to tell us what you like to get recommendations. Everyone's tastes are different....example: Many of Lucianu's recommendations make me cringe, whereas he thinks they are the greatest pc games ever plus a lot of them are old. The last thing most new pc gamers wants to do is get into outdated games, no matter how good they were at the time.\

If I had to recommend something right now I would say Skyrim and Farcry 3 for starters.

TES V: Skyrim (with mods), Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Crysis 2, Starcraft 2: HOTS, Tomb Raider, Batman Arkham City, Trine 2, and Battlefield 4 are all good games that are worth checking out...

I wouldn't play Dark Souls until they get rid of the GFWL component. GFWL is being discontinued in July of 2014. Until then, keep far, far away.

If they already removed GFWL though, then by all means jump right in. Just make sure you mod the game first though, because it is unplayable in its released form.

Let's see.

Steam and Origin are pretty much must have for most people playing games on the PC, I'd also reccommend browsing through GoG.com for some older games if you enjoy them.

As for games, at the Top of my head I'd say

Payday 2

Outlast

Planetside 2

Deus Ex : Human Revolution

Shadowrun Returns

Rise of the Triad

Sleeping Dogs

To mention a few

Try playing The Witcher 1 & 2 or Destiny. Maybe CoD series or assassins creed series. They're worth trying.

These are some of the games I really enjoyed playing on pc from various genres of course your taste may vary but not a bad place to start.

  • World in Conflict
  • Mirrors Edge
  • Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl and Stalker Call of Pipyat with complete mods.
  • Crysis Maximum Edition which includes original game and warhead make sure to use ccc 2.21 with custom tod for better performance and graphics don't use the ai tweaks breaks the games energy meter for me.
  • Crysis 3
  • Bullet Storm need to tweak fov and mouse control but perfect afterwards
  • Bioshock series altough 1-2 are bad ports mouse control even after tweaking is bad bioshock infinite can be tweaked to perfection and they put the most effort into improving the pc version
  • Sleeping Dogs
  • Batman Arkham Aslyum + City
  • Legend of Grimrock
  • Binding of Isaac
  • Plants vs Zombies
  • Starcraft 2
  • Serious Sam 3 BFE
  • Metro 2033+2034
  • Killing Floor
  • Alan Wake
  • Call of Duty 4
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Counter Strike GO
  • Portal 1+2
  • Half-life 2 + episodes
  • The Witcher 1+2
  • Audiosurf
  • Saints Row the Third
  • Assassin Creed 2
  • Sonic All Star Racing
